How much do robotics simulator jobs pay per year?
What is a Robotics Simulator job?
A Robotics Simulator job involves developing, testing, and optimizing robotic systems in a virtual environment before deploying them in the real world. Professionals in this role use simulation software to model robot behavior, analyze performance, and troubleshoot potential issues. This position is crucial in industries like automation, AI, and research, where real-world testing can be costly or unsafe. It requires expertise in robotics, physics engines, and programming languages like Python or C++.
What are the typical responsibilities of a Robotics Simulator on a day-to-day basis?
As a Robotics Simulator, your typical day involves designing, configuring, and running simulation tests for robotic systems to validate their performance before physical deployment. You’ll often collaborate closely with robotics engineers, software developers, and sometimes hardware teams to troubleshoot design issues and improve algorithms. Regular tasks include setting up simulation parameters, analyzing test results, documenting findings, and tuning models for optimal performance. This role requires both independent problem-solving and strong team communication to ensure robotics projects progress smoothly and efficiently.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Robotics Simulator position, and why are they important?
To thrive as a Robotics Simulator, you need a solid background in robotics engineering, programming (such as Python or C++), and simulation software, typically backed by a relevant degree in engineering or computer science. Familiarity with tools like ROS (Robot Operating System), Gazebo, V-REP, or MATLAB/Simulink is highly desirable, and certifications in robotics or simulation software can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and teamwork skills are essential for success in this collaborative and dynamic field. These abilities ensure accurate, efficient simulation of robotic systems, enabling reliable testing and development before real-world deployment.

- Program and debug Fanuc robots using the teach pendant in alignment with GM standards
- Support and guide peers in robot programming, dressing, and recovery methods
- Create and implement off-line robot programs and controller backups
- Interface with end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) and provide tooling adjustment support
- Supervise programming teams and manage manpower schedules at customer sites
- Configure and validate Fanuc DCS (Position Speed Check)
- Interpret and apply control schematics and troubleshoot robotic interfaces
- Collaborate with mechanical and controls engineering teams to optimize system functionality
- Train customer personnel on robot operation, maintenance, and system recovery
- Maintain high levels of safety, professionalism, and communication at customer facilities
EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE + KEY TRAITS:
Must Have:
- 2+ years of robotics experience; Fanuc robot experience required
- Strong familiarity with General Motors robot standards (GRS certification required)
- Demonstrated experience in robotic system debug and troubleshooting

- Ability to read and interpret electrical and controls prints
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work collaboratively on-site with customer teams and internal resources
- Must have dependable transportation and willingness to travel regularly
- Professional demeanor with excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineering degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- AIA certification or background in vision-guided robotics (optional but a plus)
- Experience with robot-guided picking/placing/inspection systems
- Familiarity with Fusion 360 or similar mechanical CAD tools
- Understanding of PLC controls and I/O integration
Working Conditions:
- Regular travel to automotive customer plants required
- May require standing, kneeling, or climbing in and around robotic cells
- Requires use of standard PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in plant environments
- Shift flexibility required based on project scheduling
TYPICAL PERFORMANCE TARGETS
- PROJECT EXECUTION: On-time commissioning of robotic systems aligned to customer timelines
- QUALITY OF WORK: High accuracy in programming and minimal rework required during debug
- CUSTOMER SATISFACTION: Consistent positive feedback from customer plant personnel
