Job description

As NuPortโ€™s Director of Engineering, you will be accountable to the CEO / CTO for developing and executing technical roadmaps. You will lead an engineering team of Roboticists and Machine Learning Engineers to deliver an industry leading autonomous driving tech for the transportation market. Overall, you will define the Companyโ€™s Engineering and Software Architecture foreseeing the long-term path. It is preferred that the position be based in the Greater Toronto Area, however remote positions will also be considered for a short duration. The position will involve travel to partner and customer locations globally. This is preferably a full time role, part-time and contract positions also applicable.

Preferred experience:
  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other technical field with 7+ years of Industry Experience in a computer vision / Sensors / Robotics / Hardware for the automotive market.
  • Strong C++, Python and ROS skills.
  • Strong experience with Ubuntu.
  • Knowledge of git is required
  • At least 3 years of experience in autonomous driving vehicles at a Senior position in one or more of the following
    • Working at an OEM or Tier-1 or Autonomous driving company in a product-centric R&D position.
    • Working in tech startups in senior management.
  • 3+ years of Full-stack development experience for autonomous vehicles.
  • Experience scaling and managing 5+ person teams.
  • Good understanding of current state of the art algorithms driving the automotive industry with respect to sensors, Computer vision and Deep Learning.
  • Good understanding of topics, algorithms related to localization, mapping, motion planning, controls, perception, functional safety, big data management, etc.
  • Understanding of the hardware tech-stack for autonomous vehicles.
  • Demonstrated experience in DevOps, CI/CD, and bash scripts on Linux at an industrial level.
  • Strong Understanding of functional safety components. Experience with ISO26262, Autosar, etc.
  • Some Experience in Logistics, Transportation Management, Fleet Management and/or related industry.
  • Experience in writing technical proposals including Govt. and Industry proposals, writing patents, industrial whitepapers, etc.
  • Strong presentation, demo and communication skills.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment.
Functional Responsibilities:
  • Managing timely execution of technical development projects, including architecture recommendations and prioritization.
  • Closely working with product managers and architects to set up technical roadmaps and being at the forefront of technology, engineering and platform.
  • Leveraging DevOps principles to create a seamless solution for software product delivery.
  • Leading by example for a team of Engineers in different domains (perception, motion planning, sensors, etc.). For instance setting up of new APIโ€™s working with platform engineering teams, enforcing good software engineering and data analytics standards, etc.
  • Integration of the various functionalities shipped by the R&D team.
  • Responsible for cloud and data infrastructure insights to ensure integration and productivity of resources using GCP, Kubernetes, Hadoop or similar technology.
  • Providing direction and guidance in assessing and evaluating security and privacy risks, including examining the impact of new technologies shipped by various technical and R&D teams
