The Automation Engineer is responsible for trouble shooting, root cause analysis and correcting plant issues to include automation, robots, and maintenance while effectively communicating findings and training others in the repairs as such.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Analyze plant open issues regarding automation, robots and maintenance; assist the plant personnel to close out said issues.
  • Observe plant maintenance procedures and make recommendations to appropriate plant personnel and management.
  • Support USF Tooling designs to determine best practices for robot extraction.
  • Provide Manufacturing feasibility for assembly and welding
  • Support continuous improvement plans and launch activities within USF.
  • Develop RFQ and Manufacturing Plans based on awarded program
  • Support Product/Tool design feasibility reviews
  • Provide upfront automation estimates to the Costing Group for new business quotes
  • Must be able/willing to Travel to USF Plants during launch or CI Projects
  • Build upon Lessons Learned and Best Manufacturing Practices
  • Leads equipment design reviews with the plants and vendors
  • Supports Plant launches and equipment installations
  • Support DFM/DFA for new products
  • Track equipment open issues and resolve in a timely fashion
  • Train individuals on new assembly equipment/process
  • Utilize automation to reduce labor and optimize assembly process
  • Collaborating with other Business Units
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a Four-year college or technical school; 5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read PLC and electrical prints.
  • Experience with injection molding machines and their function and knowledge of robotic controls.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications – Word / Excel / Power Point / Project
  • AutoCAD Experience
  • Familiar with Simulation software and applications
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
