Location: Rockwood, TN

Available Shifts:

  • 2nd Shift: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM
  • 3rd Shift: 11:30 PM – 8:00 AM

Position Summary

The Automation Technician supports production by installing, maintaining, programming, operating, and improving automated equipment and robotic systems. This role ensures equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety while working closely with production and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Production Support & Robot Operation

  • Operate robotic and automation systems during production to meet output and quality targets
  • Monitor system performance and respond to faults, alarms, and process deviations in real time
  • Set up, stage, clean, and tear down automation equipment
  • Perform resets, homing, and tooling changes
  • Communicate equipment issues and production concerns promptly
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures

Robotics & Controls

  • Program, troubleshoot, and optimize robotic systems (preferably Fanuc)
  • Develop and adjust robot paths for efficiency, safety, and quality
  • Program and edit PLC and HMI systems
  • Configure and troubleshoot sensors, vision systems, and I/O devices
  • Support basic industrial networking (Ethernet, IP systems)

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automation equipment
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical components (e.g., sensors, motors, controllers)
  • Test and verify system performance using diagnostic tools
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and service records

Installation & Integration

  • Install, assemble, and align robotic systems and peripheral equipment
  • Assist engineers with system design, setup, and integration
  • Support implementation of conveyors, tooling, and vision systems

Continuous Improvement

  • Work with production teams to improve system uptime and performance
  • Document procedures, system changes, and improvements
  • Train operators and technicians on equipment use and troubleshooting
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts and critical components

Technical Skills

  • Experience with robotic systems (Fanuc preferred)
  • Knowledge of PLC programming and HMI interfaces
