What is the difference between Robot Simulation vs Robot Programmer?

AspectRobot SimulationRobot Programmer
Required CredentialsEngineering degree, CAD/Simulation software skillsEngineering or computer science degree, programming skills
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, simulation software environmentsManufacturing floors, robotics labs, programming environments
Industry UsageTesting, designing, and validating robot behaviors virtuallyWriting, testing, and deploying robot control code
Common Search IntentUnderstanding virtual robot testing and designLearning robot programming and control development

Robot Simulation focuses on creating virtual models and testing robot behaviors using simulation software, while Robot Programmer involves writing and implementing code to control physical robots. Both roles require technical skills but differ in their focus—virtual testing versus real-world programming.

Is robotics a high paying career?

Robotics is generally considered a high-paying career, especially for roles such as robot simulation engineers or automation specialists, with salaries often exceeding the national average for engineering jobs. Advanced skills in programming, control systems, and experience with simulation tools like ROS or MATLAB can lead to higher compensation, particularly in industries like manufacturing, aerospace, and research. However, salaries vary based on experience, education, location, and industry demand.

Job description

Mujin is the future of industrial robotic systems in production and distribution environments. Our technology gives robots perception and awareness, enabling them to take on more advanced tasks. We aim to revolutionize the use of robotics within industry to free human resources from labor-intensive tasks to focus on more intellectual challenges.

Mujin Corp is looking for talented robotics software developers to join our Fleet Management team to push the boundaries of autonomous robotic systems. You will develop cutting-edge robotics technology, including design, implementation, and testing of algorithms that run on numerous robots in real-time. Our applications are safety critical and involve autonomous interactions with the surrounding world in an uncontrolled environment. You will test and deploy your work in simulation and the real world on various off-the-shelf and in-house robotics hardware. You will contribute to the development of ambitious and innovative projects as part of a dedicated team of world-class engineers.

Position Description:

  • Design, implement, test and maintain software for autonomous fleet management, including task assignment, multi-agent motion planning and plan execution frameworks.
  • Build robust interfaces between hardware and software for AMRs/AGVs.
  • Optimize algorithms and implementation for scaling. Balance tradeoffs for production systems, for example, in battery management or AGV utilization.
  • Write production-quality code that runs in near real-time. Deploy solutions in simulation and real-world environments.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless communication between robots and enterprise platforms.
  • Mentor junior developers and enforce best practices in software development.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in robotics software development, industrial automation, or similar industry.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
  • Expertise in robotics, motion planning, multi-agent coordination or real-time systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in multi-agent pathfinding or task assignment in lifelong and online domains.
  • Experience with ROS/ROS2.
  • Experience with real-time systems.

Physical Demands/ Work Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
