Stew Leonard's, a family-owned and operated fresh food store founded in 1969, has locations in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. Stew's earned its nickname, the "Disneyland of Dairy Stores" because of its country-fair atmosphere, with costumed characters and animated entertainment throughout the store that keep children entertained while parents shop.

Position Description:
Coffee Roasters are responsible for taking raw green coffee beans and transforming them into roasted coffee beans using established standards. Team members work safely and adhere to all food safety and sanitation standards to provide customers with the highest quality packaged coffee beans and store brewed coffee.
Your day-to-day:
  • Examine cases and prepare production list, being mindful of seasonal items
  • Weighing batches of coffee beans in scale hopper and feeding raw beans into the roasting oven
  • Maintain proper temperature by observing the roaster thermometer and adjusting controls properly
  • Estimate roasting time by observing the color and aroma of the roasting beans
  • Properly discharge the roasted beans to the cooling tray and once cool, add flavoring, when appropriate, using appropriate measurement
  • Maintain, fill, and rotate coffee displays
  • Clean machines based on established standard
  • Training other team members, as needed
  • Adhere to all health, sanitation, and safety regulations
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

Qualifications:
  • 18 years of age or older
  • No coffee roasting experience necessary, but requires product knowledge
  • Safely use coffee roaster
  • Great customer service skills
  • Great communications skills, both written and oral
  • The ability to multi-task
