What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Road Ranger, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Road Ranger, you need a solid understanding of traffic safety, emergency response procedures, and vehicle operations, often supported by a valid driver's license and relevant safety training. Familiarity with two-way radios, incident management systems, and basic vehicle repair tools is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help Road Rangers effectively assist motorists and coordinate with emergency services. These skills are crucial for ensuring roadway safety, minimizing traffic disruptions, and providing timely assistance to stranded drivers.

What are some common challenges faced by Road Rangers during their shifts, and how are they addressed?

Road Rangers often encounter challenges such as inclement weather, heavy traffic, and assisting stranded motorists in potentially hazardous locations. These situations require quick decision-making, strong communication skills, and adherence to strict safety protocols. To address these challenges, Road Rangers receive specialized training in roadside safety, emergency response, and conflict resolution, and they typically work in teams or have direct communication with dispatchers to ensure support is available when needed.

What are Road Rangers?

Road Rangers are specially trained personnel who patrol highways to provide free roadside assistance to motorists. Their main duties include helping with flat tires, providing fuel, offering minor mechanical repairs, and clearing disabled vehicles from the road to ensure traffic flows smoothly and safely. Road Rangers also support law enforcement and emergency responders during accidents or road incidents. This service helps reduce traffic congestion and improves safety on busy roadways. They are commonly found in programs managed by state transportation departments.

Description

4-Day Route

$55,000-$65,000+ a year | Full-time | Montrose, CO

Schedule: Tuesday-Friday | Typical start 4:30-6:00 am | Sat-Sun-Mon off

Your New Job: Own Your Route. Own Your Weekend.

Are you the kind of driver who takes pride in reliable service and wants a schedule that actually gives you a life outside of work? At High Country Beverage (HCB), our CDL Delivery Drivers are the face of our operation - building real relationships with retailers across the Western Slope while delivering the brands people love. This Montrose-based route runs Tuesday through Friday, every week. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday are yours.

Is This Route a Fit for You?

  • This is a physical, independent role that takes you out of Montrose and into the mountains. It's not for everyone - and that's intentional.
  • Mountain Roads: You'll run regular routes to Gunnison and Lake City, including high-altitude passes in variable conditions. If you've driven Colorado winters, you know what that means.
  • The Heavy Work: You'll handle cases and kegs (up to 160 lbs). We provide the training and equipment to do this safely and efficiently.
  • The Long Weekend: Tuesday-Friday, early starts, finished in the afternoon most days. Three-day weekends from day one.

What You'll Do

  • Own Your Accounts: Deliver to retailers in Montrose, Gunnison, and Lake City. In smaller communities, your reliability is the brand. Retailers notice who shows up consistently.
  • Execute the Full Beverage Delivery Experience: Transport, offload, and merchandise product for iconic brands - Coors Banquet, Voodoo Ranger, Miller Lite, Guinness, Modelo, and more.
  • Manage Your Day: Use HCB's route technology to run an efficient, accurate stop sequence. If you're comfortable with apps, you'll thrive here.
  • Be the Standard: Represent HCB in the communities we serve. Professionalism, accuracy, and safety aren't optional - they're how we win.

Why Drive for High Country Beverage?

  • Guaranteed Pay Floor: You're paid for a minimum of 45 hours per week (40 regular + 5 OT) even if your route finishes short. Hours beyond 45 are paid at overtime rates. Budget against a real number.
  • Financial Flexibility: Access your earned wages whenever you need them with Paylocity's On-Demand Pay.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, and a 401(k) with company match after 2-year vesting.
  • The HCB Perks: Two weeks of PTO in your first year, employee beverage discounts, and company-sponsored Safe Ride reimbursements.
  • Career Growth: This isn't just a driving job. Many of our Warehouse Leads, Supervisors, and Sales Managers started behind the wheel. Your path is what you make it.

What We're Looking For

  • Licensed: Valid CDL Class A with a clean driving record.
  • Mountain-Ready: Comfortable with high-altitude, year-round Colorado driving conditions.
  • Reliable: You take pride in showing up and supporting your retail partners and your team.
  • Safety First: You follow protocols to keep yourself, your coworkers, and the public safe.
  • Can-Do Attitude: Ready to own a route, build relationships, and represent HCB the right way.

At High Country Beverage, we are more than just a beer distributor. We are a team of people who take pride in serving the communities we live in - from the Front Range to the Western Slope. If you're looking for a predictable schedule, meaningful route work, and a company that invests in its drivers, apply today!

While we sincerely appreciate all applications, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
