What is an RF manager?

An RF (Radio Frequency) Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the planning, deployment, optimization, and maintenance of radio frequency networks, such as those used in telecommunications, broadcasting, or wireless communications. They manage teams of engineers and technicians, ensure regulatory compliance, and work to maximize network performance and coverage. RF Managers also analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with other departments to support network expansion and upgrades.

What are some common challenges RF managers face when coordinating cross-functional teams?

RF Managers often work closely with engineering, operations, and project management teams to ensure optimal network performance. A common challenge is aligning technical requirements and timelines across departments, as each group may have different priorities. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are essential to manage expectations, resolve conflicts, and drive projects forward. Additionally, RF Managers must stay updated on evolving technologies and regulatory standards, which requires continuous learning and adaptability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RF manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an RF Manager, you need in-depth knowledge of radio frequency engineering, wireless communication principles, and a relevant degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with RF design tools (such as Atoll or TEMS), spectrum analyzers, and industry certifications like CWNA or CCNA Wireless is often required. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are vital for managing teams and projects effectively. These abilities ensure optimal network performance, efficient project execution, and the ability to adapt to evolving wireless technology demands.

We take pride in our dynamic and cross-functional work environment, which allows us to learn, develop, and engage across our organization. If you are looking for hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work, CesiumAstro is the place for you. We are actively seeking passionate, collaborative, energetic, and forward-thinking individuals to join our team.

We are looking to add a Senior RF Test Engineer II to our team. If you enjoy working in a startup environment and are passionate about developing critical test systems for leading-edge satellite, spacecraft, and aerospace communication systems, we would like to hear from you.

In this position, you are responsible for the design, analysis, and implementation of engineering test plans and procedures. The ideal candidate possesses a strong combination of hardware and software knowledge with proficiencies in RF measurements, test equipment (VSAs, VSGs, VNAs, etc.), test architectures, and automation. The successful candidate will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to address company-wide hardware test needs. Experience with phased array testing is preferred.

Core day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with design and test engineering teams to develop test requirements, mapping requirements to reusable test architectures and procedures, implementing test plans and procedures, and logging and presenting results to key stakeholders. Additional responsibilities include lab and equipment management and guiding key equipment purchase decisions.

  • Test architecture design and development including scripting, test executives, hardware, and measurement abstraction layers.
  • Proficiency with statistics and metrology as related to RF test design.
  • Hands-on experience with lab instruments such as digital oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, and vector signal analyzers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
