Job Description PCB Layout Engineer County Durham | Permanent | Relocation package available The Company Our client is a leading innovator in RF and microwave technology, developing high-performance products that support critical communications, telecommunications, defence, aerospace and advanced technology applications worldwide. The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced PCB Layout Engineer to join a growing engineering team based in Durham. This is an exciting opportunity to work on sophisticated electronic systems, supporting the development of cutting-edge products from concept through to production.

This role offers far more than traditional PCB design. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, translating complex schematics into high-quality, manufacturable PCB layouts while ensuring performance, reliability and product quality standards are met. Key Responsibilities Take ownership of PCB layout activities across a range of complex electronic products.

Produce high-quality PCB layouts from schematic designs while meeting electrical, mechanical, thermal and manufacturing requirements. Develop designs with consideration for controlled impedance, signal integrity, power distribution, grounding and EMC performance. Support high-speed digital interfaces including DDR, PCIe, Ethernet, LVDS and JESD204.

Create fabrication, assembly and manufacturing documentation packages. Participate in design reviews, DFM/DFA assessments and engineering risk reviews. Develop and maintain PCB component libraries, footprints and symbols.

Support ongoing improvements to PCB design standards, templates and processes. Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing partners to resolve production and design issues. Support prototype builds, testing and investigation of PCB-related challenges.

Essential Skills & Experience Proven PCB layout experience using Altium Designer and Altium 365. Experience taking PCB designs from concept and schematic through to production release. Strong understanding of PCB stack-up design, controlled impedance, signal integrity, power integrity, thermal management and EMC principles.

Experience working on mixed-signal, analogue, digital and power electronic designs. Ability to interpret electronic schematics and understand design intent. Experience creating, validating and maintaining PCB component libraries and footprints.

Good understanding of PCB fabrication, SMT assembly and manufacturing processes. Strong attention to detail and configuration control skills. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Desirable Experience RF, microwave or mmWave PCB design experience. High-speed digital design and multilayer PCB technologies. IPC standards and advanced PCB materials.

Product lifecycle management (PLM) systems and change control processes. Experience supporting PCB design standards and engineering best practices. What's on Offer Work on technically challenging, high-performance electronic products.
