Job description

Position Title: MEP Designer

Hire Type: Full-Time, Permanent Hire

Location: Jackson, MS | Gulf Coast Region (Biloxi, MS)

Schedule: Onsite

Position Summary:

Stoneway Talent is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a well-established, multi-discipline engineering firm in Mississippi. Our client is seeking a skilled Plumbing Designer to contribute to the design and documentation of plumbing systems across a diverse portfolio of commercial, institutional, government, and healthcare projects throughout Mississippi and the Gulf Coast. The firm carries a significant and growing book of work in the healthcare sector, making familiarity with medical facilities plumbing requirements a meaningful advantage in this role.

This is an opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who takes ownership of their work, thrives in a collaborative environment, and wants to contribute to projects that have a real, lasting impact on the communities they serve. A flexible schedule is offered, coordinated with your supervisory team.

What You’ll Do:

Design & Documentation

  • Produce plumbing system designs for a variety of building types, including domestic water supply and distribution, sanitary and storm drainage, natural gas, and specialty systems.
  • Design plumbing systems for healthcare and medical facilities in compliance with the FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities, NFPA 99, and applicable state health department requirements, including medical gas rough-in coordination, infection control considerations, and water temperature management per ASSE 1070.
  • Develop construction drawings and specifications using REVIT and AutoCAD, ensuring accuracy, code compliance, and constructability.
  • Size and select plumbing equipment and fixtures appropriate to project requirements, including water heaters, pumps, backflow preventers, and specialty systems.
  • Perform plumbing calculations including pipe sizing, pressure drop analysis, fixture unit load calculations, and equipment schedules.
  • Coordinate plumbing designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines to resolve conflicts and maintain design intent.

CONSTRUCTION SUPPORT & ADMINISTRATION

  • Support construction administration activities for assigned projects, serving as a reliable resource for field questions and design clarifications.
  • Review contractor shop drawings, submittals, and product data for conformance with design intent and project specifications.
  • Attend and participate in project coordination and construction meetings as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of responses to requests for information (RFIs) and issue field design clarifications as needed.

COLLABORATION & STANDARDS

  • Work closely with senior mechanical engineers and project managers to deliver cohesive, high-quality project packages on schedule.
  • Apply current plumbing codes and standards in all design work, including IPC, UPC, ASHRAE, and applicable local amendments. For healthcare projects, apply FGI Guidelines, NFPA 99, ASSE 1070, ASHRAE 188 (Legionellosis Risk Management for Building Water Systems), and CMS Conditions of Participation as required by project scope and facility type.
  • Contribute to the firm's culture of design excellence by consistently producing thorough, well-coordinated, and professionally presented work.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 2 or more years of plumbing design experience in a consulting engineering or design-build environment.
  • Proficiency with REVIT and AutoCAD for production-level plumbing design and drafting.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing codes and standards, including IPC, UPC, ASHRAE, and applicable local amendments. Familiarity with healthcare-specific standards such as FGI Guidelines, NFPA 99, ASSE 1070, and ASHRAE 188 is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform plumbing calculations, size systems, and produce complete, code-compliant construction documents.
  • Experience supporting construction administration, including shop drawing review and RFI responses.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, well-coordinated work.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach to working within multi-discipline project teams.
  • Prior experience in hospital, clinic, or other healthcare facility projects is highly valued.

Why This Opportunity:

Our client is a well-established, multi-discipline engineering firm with offices across Mississippi. Healthcare is a cornerstone of their project portfolio, giving designers consistent exposure to one of the most technically demanding and rewarding sectors in the built environment. Their team delivers technically rigorous, forward-thinking design across a wide range of project types, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, federal facilities, and educational institutions. Designers are given meaningful project responsibilities, mentored by experienced engineers, and supported by a team that values craftsmanship and professional growth.
