Electrical Engineer II (Building Systems Design)

Company Name: RTM Engineering Consultants
Location: Orlando, FL
Project Focus: Commercial, Healthcare, Education, and Institutional Building Systems
Work Setting: In-office + Flexible Scheduling (RTO-Based)
Salary: $75,000 – $95,000 + Bonus Potential + Profit Sharing & 401(k) Match
Recruited Exclusively By: Luxus | AEC Talent Partners

Position Overview

This is where early-career electrical engineers step out of redlines and into real design ownership. As an Electrical Engineer II, you'll take the lead on developing power, lighting, and low-voltage building systems that directly shape how facilities operate. You won't just support projects—you'll actively contribute to system design, coordination, and execution across a range of commercial and institutional environments.

What separates this opportunity is the environment. You'll work inside a fully integrated, multidisciplinary team where electrical design isn't siloed—it's part of a coordinated engineering effort. With direct access to mentorship, hands-on project exposure, and structured development resources, this role is designed to accelerate your path toward licensure and position you for long-term technical or project leadership.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop construction documents for electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage infrastructure
  • Perform electrical load calculations, lighting analysis, and system sizing in alignment with project requirements
  • Select and specify appropriate electrical equipment based on project type, code requirements, and performance needs
  • Coordinate designs with mechanical, plumbing, structural, and civil teams to ensure seamless system integration
  • Interpret and apply building codes, NEC standards, and engineering best practices to all design deliverables
  • Support projects through construction administration, responding to RFIs, submittals, and field coordination needs
  • Contribute to design alternatives and value-engineering strategies to optimize project outcomes
  • Maintain accuracy, quality, and timeliness across all assigned project deliverables
  • Collaborate internally to improve workflows, enhance efficiency, and support overall project execution

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience: 3–5 years of electrical design experience within the AEC or building systems environment
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong foundation in power distribution, lighting systems, and building electrical infrastructure (typically 120V–480V systems)
    • Working knowledge of NEC, building codes, and multi-discipline coordination
  • Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
  • Engineering Tools: Familiarity with SKM, lighting calculation software, or similar analysis tools
  • Communication: Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and communicate design intent clearly

Preferred Qualifications

  • EIT certification or actively pursuing PE licensure
  • Experience with healthcare, commercial, or institutional projects
  • Exposure to short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies
  • Familiarity with energy codes and sustainable design practices
  • Strong understanding of construction administration processes
