Job description

GFTย is seeking aย Justiceย Architect, Groupย Leaderย to join our team andย help advance our unifiedย vision for growth in theย justice and corrections market.ย This strategic leadershipย position is idealย for a seasoned professional whoย excels as aย subject matter expert, relationship-builder, opportunity creator, andย designย leader.ย 

As part of GFT's integrated Architecture & Engineering practice, you will collaborate closely withย otherย Justiceย marketย disciplineย leadersย andย ourย national team of designers to drive market growth, strengthen client partnerships, and expand our geographic reach. Together, you will help shape a justice practice that combines design innovation with a deep commitment to community-centered, human-focused environments.ย

Youย willย be responsible forย the following:ย 

  • Market Leadership & Strategyย 
  • Representย GFT in the justice and correctionsย market,ย promoting ourย expertiseย and capabilities.ย 
  • Collaborate with marketย disciplineย leadersย to execute a unified growth strategy across regions.ย ย 
  • Develop and implement strategic business development plans aligned with firmwide goals.ย 
  • Identifyย and pursue new market opportunities, including expansion into emerging geographic areas.ย 
  • Oversee the Justice Architecture department including staffing strategy,ย andย talent development.ย 
  • Set annual department goals,ย Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and performance metrics tied to revenue, profitability, quality, and market growth.ย 
  • Partner with firmwide leadership to forecast workload, manage staffing plans, and support recruitment.ย 
  • Build andย maintainย relationships with key agencies, decision-makers, andย teamingย partners.ย 
  • Research client-specific programs,ย operationalย models,ย and standards.ย 
  • Attend and represent the firm at conferences, client meetings, and industry events.ย 
  • Travel regionallyย and nationwide as needed.ย 
  • Develop and publish articles on justice design trends, policy impacts, and operational innovations; represent the firm as a leading voice in the national justice architecture community.ย 
  • Client Engagement & Relationship Developmentย 
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and primary client contact, ensuring long-term relationships built on trust and performance.ย 
  • Cultivate partnerships with local, state, and federal stakeholders to deepen market presence and client loyalty.ย 
  • Support the development of strategic pursuits and partnerships that align with client missions and community goals.ย 
  • Project & Pursuit Leadershipย 
  • Lead and contribute to proposal development, including writing, design concepts, and quality review.ย 
  • Participate in and lead client interviews and presentations,ย demonstratingย subjectย expertiseย and team capabilities.ย 
  • Work collaboratively with regional and national teams to position GFT for continued success in key markets.ย 
  • Represent the firm in justicefocused associations such as ACA, NIC, AJA, AIA Academy of Architecture for Justiceย (AAJ). ย 
  • Thought Leadership & Technical Expertiseย 
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in justice architecture,ย spanningย adult and juvenile corrections, courts, and public safety facilities.ย 
  • Share insights on industry trends, operational innovations, and design best practices to inform client strategies and project delivery.ย 
  • Contribute to firmwide thought leadership initiatives, including white papers, speaking engagements, and conference participation.ย 
  • Projectย Managementย & Team Leadershipย 
  • Manageย select projectsย - generate project scopes, schedules, and budgets andย ensure high-quality, on-time delivery.ย 
  • Lead the development of design concepts and presentations thatย align with client and community goals.ย ย 
  • Mentor and lead multi-disciplinary teams through full pursuit and project lifecycle, contributing to a culture of collaboration and excellence.ย 
  • Coordinate technical documentation with engineering teams, consultants, and subconsultants.ย ย 
  • Overseeย preparation of project specifications, code compliance, and quality control reviews.ย ย 
  • Support teams during bid, permit, and construction administration phases.ย 
  • Participate in site visits as needed to ensure project goals are achieved.ย 
  • Mentorย emergingย architectural staff, supporting career development and knowledge sharing.ย 

Whatย you willย bring to our firm:ย 

  • A collaborative, organized, and positive leadership style.ย ย 
  • Bachelor's or master'sย degree in architecture.ย ย 
  • Proficiencyย inย Revit Architecture,ย BlueBeamย Revu, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office.ย 
  • Experience withย technicalย specification writingย and construction documentation.ย ย 
  • Strong communication,ย writing,ย andย presentationย skillsย are important.ย ย 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate across offices.ย ย 
  • Comprehensiveย understanding ofย International Building Codes, NFPA, ADA, LEED, and relatedย codes andย standards.ย 
  • Expert knowledge of justice design standards, including ACA and NIC guidelines.ย ย 

What we prefer you bring:ย 

  • Licensed/Registered Architectย within the United States.ย 
  • 15+ย years' experience in Project Managementย and Justice/Correctional designย withย demonstratedย leadership in courts, detention, jail, or public safety facilities.ย ย 
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams at a principal orย seniorย level.ย 
  • Proven ability to lead teams, win work, and manage client relationships across multiple geographies.ย ย 
  • Prior responsibility for market strategy, department leadership, or business development.ย 
  • Experience presenting to elected officials, funding authorities, and community groups.ย 

Compensation:ย 

Theย salaryย range for this position is $220,000- $250,000,ย depending onย experience and geographic location.ย ย ย ย
