What is a retrofit?

Retrofit jobs involve modifying or upgrading existing buildings, systems, or equipment to improve their performance, efficiency, or compliance with new standards. This typically includes installing new technology or making structural changes to enhance energy efficiency, safety, or usability. Retrofit professionals may work on projects like updating HVAC systems, adding insulation, or integrating renewable energy solutions into older structures. The goal of retrofitting is often to extend the life of existing assets while reducing environmental impact and operational costs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a retrofit coordinator?

To thrive as a Retrofit Coordinator, you need strong project management skills, a solid understanding of building construction and energy efficiency, often supported by relevant qualifications like a Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination. Familiarity with software such as PAS 2035 compliance tools, energy modeling systems, and building information modeling (BIM) is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management abilities make someone stand out in this position. These skills are vital for ensuring retrofit projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulations to achieve sustainability goals.

What are some common challenges faced by retrofit engineers when upgrading older buildings to meet modern energy efficiency standards?

Retrofit Engineers often encounter difficulties such as integrating new technologies with outdated building systems, working within the constraints of existing structural layouts, and ensuring minimal disruption to occupants during upgrades. Balancing cost-effectiveness with the need to comply with updated energy codes and sustainability goals is also a frequent challenge. Successful projects typically require close collaboration with architects, contractors, and building owners to develop tailored solutions that improve efficiency while preserving the building’s integrity.

Job description

West Georgia | ESOP | Base Salary + Uncapped Commission

Our client is a well-established commercial mechanical contractor with more than 70 years of success serving the Southeast. As an employee-owned (ESOP) company, they have built a reputation for delivering exceptional HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical retrofit solutions to manufacturing, industrial, and commercial clients.

Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Sales Executive to develop new business opportunities within the manufacturing and industrial market throughout West Georgia and surrounding areas.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious sales professional who enjoys building relationships, creating opportunities, and being rewarded for results. If you're energized by meeting new people, networking, uncovering projects, and helping clients solve complex mechanical challenges, we'd love to speak with you.

What You'll Do

This is a true business development role. You won't inherit a book of business—you'll build one.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Prospecting and developing new client relationships throughout your territory
  • Cold calling, networking, attending industry events, lunch-and-learns, and customer visits
  • Identifying mechanical retrofit and capital project opportunities
  • Building long-term relationships with manufacturing facilities, commercial property owners, engineers, and general contractors
  • Meeting with clients to understand their mechanical needs and recommend solutions
  • Reviewing drawings and blueprints to prepare accurate project estimates
  • Coordinating with vendors and subcontractors to develop competitive proposals
  • Following projects from initial opportunity through award
  • Achieving sales, revenue, and profitability goals

Projects Include

  • HVAC retrofit and replacement projects
  • Plumbing systems
  • Process piping
  • Compressed air systems
  • Building automation and controls
  • Exhaust and ventilation systems
  • Mechanical renovations and tenant improvements

What We're Seeking

  • Experience selling commercial mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, piping, or related construction services
  • Ability to read construction drawings and blueprints
  • Strong prospecting and business development skills
  • Comfortable making cold calls and developing new accounts
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated, organized, and driven by results
  • Ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously
  • Experience estimating mechanical projects is highly desirable

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $65,000–$100,000, depending on experience
  • Uncapped commission with realistic earnings potential of $150,000–$300,000+
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Company-paid health insurance
  • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance
  • Gas card
  • Laptop and cell phone/allowance
  • Comprehensive health benefits
  • Paid Time Off
  • Long-term career advancement with an established industry leader

Why This Opportunity?

This isn't a role where you're handed a list of existing accounts to manage.

It's an opportunity to build your own territory, develop lasting customer relationships, and be rewarded for your success. If you're a motivated sales professional who enjoys opening doors, solving problems, and winning work, this position offers exceptional earning potential with the stability of a respected, employee-owned contractor.

If this sounds like the next step in your career, we'd love to speak with you. Apply today, and let's discuss how this opportunity aligns with your goals.
