Company Overview

University Retina is a full-service practice that specializes in helping patients heal eyesight-robbing diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula. Led by a team of board-certified ophthalmologists and retina specialists, the practice has locations in Oak Forest, Bedford Park, Lemont, Lombard, and Lincolnwood, Illinois.

With a dedication to education, technology, charity, and compassionate care, the University Retina team strives to provide patients with the highest level of retinal care in the world. The physicians diagnose and treat retinal-related conditions, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment repair, and other disorders of the retina, vitreous, and macula.

All University Retina offices are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and each patient's treatment plan includes the most current and effective therapies or services available.ย 

Position Summary

Responsible for all day-to-day activities in a specified practice location including but limited to staffing, clinic flow, patient relations, inventory, and equipment maintenance. The Clinic Supervisor acts as a liaison for office staff with managers and senior leadership.

Pay Range - $26.00-$34.00/hr.ย  Commensurate with experience

Responsibilities

Essential Skillsย 

Advanced understanding and ability to complete each skill as required based on iJCAHPO training and generally accepted understanding of each individual skill:

  • History Taking
  • Visual Acuity
  • Confrontation Visual Fields
  • Extraocular Motility Assessment: evaluation of ductions, perform cover/uncover & alternating cover testing and document defects; recognize defects, identify potential related pathology and possible additional testing secondary to findings
  • Pupil Assessment: recognize and identify pupil abnormalities in addition to an APD; able to use special techniques to identify abnormalities and evaluate for associated pathology
  • Intraocular Pressure Measurement with tonopen
  • Diagnostic testing including immersion and/or contact, ultrasound, OCT, visual field, fundus photography, and Fluorescein Angiogram
  • Supplemental testing including Amsler Grid, Color Vision, Stereopsis (Randot test)
  • Minor Procedure Assisting: ability to assist with intravitreal injections, lasers, and is competent is sterilization requirements and techniques for all associated instruments
  • Scribing: accurately document and select coding for all exam types, consults, and surgical procedures
  • Pharmacology: ability to identify and assist with the prescribing and/or administration of oral and intraocular medications used in the office or by the patient. This includes a firm understanding of the purpose, action, and potential side effects

Clinical

  • Direct clinic flow and oversee clinical activities for their assigned doctor
  • Maintain communication with clinical training team regarding any technicians in a training process.
  • Participate in direct patient care for at least 70% of scheduled work time each week.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
  • Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.
  • Able to determine if documentation supports E/M vs/ Eye Code, match applicable ICD-10 codes, and appropriately code in-office procedures based on documentation.
  • Able to educate patients regarding all conditions treated and surgical procedures performed by the doctor.

Administrative

  • Maintain inventory PAR levels and order necessary medical and office supplies via D365 ordering process
  • Complete monthly inventory counts and report to corporate office any procurement concerns or issues
  • Lead daily team huddles and regularly scheduled monthly team meetings.
  • Contribute to the daily and weekly staff scheduling process by completing daily staff coordination when changes are needed
  • Contribute to the doctor schedule templates.
  • Participate in annual performance review process for all direct reports, direct supervision of technicians including time and attendance, productivity, and training needs
  • Respond to all patient relations inquiries and submit complaint resolutions.
  • Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
  • Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
  • Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a leader in an ophthalmic environment
  • Knowledge in ophthalmic skills, concepts, and have basic overview of ophthalmic diseases
  • Current iJCAHPO COA certification required. COT or higher preferred.
  • Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Ability to work independently with little oversight or manager presence
