Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Engineer - Retail Technology is responsible for the planning and engineering of an organization's systems infrastructure. This includes the implementation and design of hardware and software and monitoring the performance of systems. This role is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The Engineer - Retail Technology performs a variety of tasks, may lead and direct the work of others, and has a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Administers a complex site alone or assists in the administration of a larger site.

  • Initiates new responsibilities and helps to plan the overall future design of the site/network.

  • Performs system audits to ensure policy and regulatory compliance.

  • Mentors and trains System Engineers.

  • Evaluates and/or recommends purchases; has strong influence on purchasing process.

  • Working with Enterprise System Architects to drive direction on how systems are maintained, implemented and supported in our Retail Locations

  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience

  • Experience: 4-6 yrs Linux experience, Preference SUSE

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
  • 5+ years of progressive IT engineering experience

  • Experience designing and supporting enterprise-scale systems

  • Proficiency with scripting or programming languages

  • Experience with cloud-native and modern DevOps tooling

  • Deep technical expertise and problem-solving ability

  • Leadership through influence and mentorship

  • Risk-aware decision-making

  • Strong ownership and accountability

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly within your specified tech stack.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Up to 25%

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regularly completes computer work and sits.
Occasionally walks and stands.
Seldomly or never lifts up to 50lbs.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:
Performs duties within scope of general company policies, procedures, and objectives. Analyzes problems and performs needs assessments. Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result. Regular exercise of independent judgment within accepted practices. Makes recommendations that affect policies, procedures, and practices.
