Job description

Overview

The Senior Store Operations Analyst turns store, financial, labor, inventory, and customer data into insights and recommendations that improve sales, profitability, productivity, and execution across the retail organization. This role builds reporting, forecasts, dashboards, and analytical models; identifies trends and root causes; and partners with Store Operations leadership and cross-functional teams to solve complex business problems, using advanced analytics, automation, and company-approved generative AI tools (including Claude for Enterprise and ChatGPT Enterprise) while maintaining data security, accuracy, and confidentiality. This role reports directly to the Director of Store Operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

·         Support the “Cavender’s Culture” and drive our Mission, Vision, and Values.

·         Serve as an analytical business partner to Store Operations leadership, translating business questions into structured analysis, insights, and recommended actions.

·         Analyze retail performance at the store, district, region, and company level using sales, traffic and conversion, transaction metrics, labor, margin, inventory, shrink, and other key operating metrics.

·         Identify trends, outliers, risks, and opportunities; conduct root-cause and variance analysis to explain performance drivers and pinpoint where operational focus or corrective action is needed.

·         Build and maintain recurring reporting, forecasting, dashboards, and planning tools that give the VP of Store Operations, RVPs, District Managers, and other partners timely performance visibility.

·         Develop financial and operational models to support scenario planning, business cases, resource allocation, productivity initiatives, and evaluation of operational programs or process changes.

·         Perform inventory analysis to support inventory integrity, selling opportunity, stock productivity, and the inventory levels needed to achieve sales and profitability goals.

·         Use Microsoft Excel, Power Query, Power Pivot, Power BI, SQL, and other approved analytical tools to combine data, automate repeatable processes, improve reporting efficiency, and reduce manual work.

·         Use company-approved generative AI tools, such as Claude for Enterprise and ChatGPT Enterprise, to synthesize information, test hypotheses, and develop solution options for complex challenges; build repeatable AI-assisted workflows and templates that improve analysis speed and consistency, validating outputs against source data after use.

·         Protect confidential and proprietary information and follow company data governance, security, and responsible AI practices.

·         Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Merchandising, Ecommerce, Information Technology, Loss Prevention, and other teams to connect store results with broader business drivers

·         Prepare decision-ready reports and presentations that clearly communicate performance, key findings, business implications, and actionable recommendations; track results to determine whether recommended actions achieved the expected impact.

·         Ensure store operations data, reporting, and analytical outputs are maintained with a high level of accuracy, accessibility, consistency, and appropriate internal controls.

Qualifications and Requirements

·         Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, Economics, Statistics, or a related field.

·         3+ years of experience in retail analytics, financial planning and analysis, operations analytics, business intelligence, or a related analytical role; multi-unit retail experience strongly preferred.

·         Demonstrated ability to analyze retail or operational performance and translate complex data into practical business recommendations.

·         Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, data modeling, and scenario analysis.

·         Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Power Query, Power Pivot, and Power BI, including development of dashboards and recurring reporting solutions.

·         Working knowledge of SQL and the ability to query, validate, and combine data from multiple sources.

·         Working knowledge of enterprise generative AI tools and the ability to use them responsibly, validating outputs for accuracy and relevance.

·         Knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, forecasting, and performance measurement.

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present analytical findings and recommendations to business leaders.

·         Based in Tyler, TX at our home office; Tyler area residence.

Preferred Skills

·         Strong retail business acumen and curiosity about how operations, labor, inventory, merchandising, and financial performance connect.

·         Natural problem-solving mindset, moving beyond reporting what happened to explaining why and what to do next.

·         Experience working with retail POS, traffic, labor, inventory, omnichannel, or other store-level data sources.

·         Experience using automation or AI-assisted workflows in an analytical setting.

·         Ability to handle confidential materials and matters with maximum discretion.

·         Attention to detail, with an eye for numbers and the ability to identify outliers, inconsistencies, and unusual patterns quickly.
