Department Detail – The Billy Graham Library supports the mission of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association to proclaim the Gospel to all we can by every effective means available to us, and by equipping the church and others to do the same. Our staff and volunteers present the Gospel through the Journey of Faith tour, Memorial Prayer Garden, Homeplace, and evangelistic outreaches like Christmas at the Library. We also serve and equip Christians through Ruth’s Attic bookstore, Graham Brothers Dairy Bar, group programs, special events, memorabilia displays, student resources, communications, and donor ministry activities.

Job Summary – The Seasonal Bookstore Associate position will assist the retail operations of Ruth’s Attic Bookstore, including customer service, check-out, and stocking.

Ministry Requirements

  • Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ
  • Faithfully upholds BGEA in prayer
  • Participates in daily BGEA staff devotions including Bible reading, and leading group prayer as schedule permits
  • Demonstrates behavior aligned with BGEA’s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, Hallmarks, policies, and expectations
  • Effectively represents Jesus Christ to those within both personal and professional spheres of influence

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate the retail Point of Sale System and handle cash with accuracy
  • Perform customer service in the Bookstore with excellence
  • Answer guest’s questions about inventory availability by looking up database in computer
  • Stock store, including labeling of products
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment in the store and stock rooms
  • Process telephone and special orders
  • Assists in opening and closing of cash registers including reconciling daily receipts
  • Administrative tasks as directed

Marginal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in annual physical inventory
  • All other duties as assigned

Job Specifications

Skills and Knowledge

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience required
  • One year of retail experience preferred
  • Experience with or capacity to learn the Point of Sale system, Bookstore Manager
  • Operate office equipment (telephone, copy machine, calculator etc.)
  • Competent in computer skills
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to relate to people well, being approachable, and remain patient and calm in all situations
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously, completing tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in written form

Physical/Mental Demands

  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to enter data for long periods of time
  • Ability to receive and stock inventory and lift up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to push stocked carts
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while demonstrating flexibility when priorities change
  • Capacity to prioritize work and manage multiple projects in a high-paced environment

Working Conditions

  • Work is typically performed in a retail store environment
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • Must be willing to work overtime, early or late, if necessary
