Job description

The Construction Project Engineer provides technical and administrative support to the Construction Project Managers and project teams throughout the lifecycle of commercial real estate development and construction projects. This role is responsible for coordinating project documentation, monitoring schedules and budgets, managing subcontractor communications, tracking project progress, and ensuring compliance with contract documents, safety standards, and quality requirements.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced commercial real estate environment.


Essential Responsibilities

Project Coordination

  • Assist Project Managers in planning, coordinating, and executing commercial construction projects.
  • Monitor project schedules and identify potential delays.
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas and meeting minutes.
  • Coordinate project startup, closeout, and turnover documentation.
  • Maintain accurate project records and document control.

Contract Administration

  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Process Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Prepare and track Submittals and Shop Drawings.
  • Assist in preparing Change Orders and Change Order logs.
  • Track Owner directives and Architect instructions.

Cost Management

  • Assist with budgeting and cost tracking.
  • Review subcontractor invoices for accuracy.
  • Prepare and monitor Purchase Orders.
  • Assist with monthly project cost reports.
  • Track contingency usage and pending change orders.

Scheduling

  • Update and monitor construction schedules.
  • Coordinate subcontractor activities.
  • Assist in identifying scheduling conflicts.
  • Monitor milestone completion dates.

Field Coordination

  • Coordinate with Superintendents regarding project progress.
  • Perform periodic site visits to monitor quality and progress.
  • Verify completed work prior to payment applications.
  • Coordinate inspections and testing.

Communication

  • Serve as liaison between:
    • Owners
    • Architects
    • Engineers
    • Municipal agencies
    • Contractors
    • Vendors
    • Property Management
    • Internal Development Team

Documentation

Maintain project logs including:

Qualifications

Education
