Job description

Genex Systems is looking for a Project Manager to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE) contract at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA.

The successful candidate will join the Engineering team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. This position reports directly to the Projects Manager.

Responsibilities

Responsible for managing engineering projects of all sizes, disciplines, and complexity, and/or multiple projects. Assist in marketing and managing large and complex projects or group of projects to include disciplines of mechanical, electrical, controls, civil, architectural, and structural engineering.

  • Serve as a point of contact for development and discussion of new opportunities and, subsequently, project objectives, scope, and budget within the company and between the company and the client.
  • Lead a team in the accomplishment of work on projects of large size and in the development of all required documentation/deliverables within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Control project work accomplishments vs. scope of services contracted, assess progress vs. schedule and budget; resolve conflicts or elevate conflicts to management level necessary for resolution.
  • Evaluate performance of project team members.
  • Occasionally required to perform project management activities for design services/projects in house to maintain a balanced workload.

Directs and oversees engineering/construction disciplines in project management duties. Directs efforts of team members assigned to larger projects. Supervises planning, scheduling, estimating, and reviews work accomplished by the project/construction team. Works and coordinates within a matrix engineering organization with Supervisors to acquire resources needed to complete design projects. May supervise two to ten projects and/or project teams of up to ten (10) members.

Qualifications
US Citizenship required. BS degree from an accredited engineering school and five (5) to ten (10) years of engineering experience with at least three (3) years in project management, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and three (3) to five (5) years of engineering experience with at least two (2) years in project management.

Demonstrated competence in project management and technical competence in discipline field(s) and knowledge of company policies and practices.

  • Project Management oversight for construction projects with the understanding of design documentation requirements and preparation to complete a successful project.
  • Holds Project Management Institute (PMI) and holds a PMP/CMRP certification or obtains certification within 2 years of hire date.
  • Preferred Qualification:
    • Knowledge of Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) best practices is desired. Experience in the execution of DBIA best practices is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft word, excel, project, and Outlook.
  • Knowledgeable in budget reporting and understanding programs associated with project management.

Essential Functions

Work Environment:
Office environment. (65%) Test facilities and active construction site environment - loud noise and potentially hazardous
equipment operation. (35%) Travel between office and various within the NASA center is required.

Physical Requirements:
Limited time spent on active construction sites. Must be physically capable of walking and climbing over rough terrain and working at elevated heights and confined spaces. Construction sites are commonly areas of high noise levels due to construction equipment and facility test operations. (35%) Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs.

Equipment and Machines:
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (65%) including the following typical PC Software-Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Microsoft Project.
Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (35%)

Attendance:
Regular attendance mandatory (100%)
Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (5% - 20%)
