Job Title: Special Events Associate

Reports To: Co-reports to Marking Assistant Manager and Special Events Manager

Type of Position: Non-Exempt / Hourly

Classification: Seasonal / Temporary

Location: Bryson City, NC & Whittier, NC

Compensation: $11.00 -15.00 DOE

Job Summary: The Special Events Associate is an on-call role designed for employees who assist with the planning, preparation, execution, and breakdown of all special events hosted by the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. This position plays a key operational role in ensuring events are organized, efficient, and executed to a high standard both onboard the train and on the ground.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with inventory, organization, and maintenance of special events supplies, costumes, props, and equipment.
  • Support event setup and tear-down, including staging, loading/unloading materials, and preparing train cars and ground locations.
  • Running onboard event experiences and ground operations during special events.
  • Support as needed throughout event execution.
  • Help troubleshoot and resolve operational issues in real time during events.
  • Assist with post-event breakdown, cleaning, and restocking of materials.
  • Support training days, rehearsals, and pre-event preparation when required.
  • Other duties as requested by GSMR and AHR.

Work Environment:

  • Will vary depending on event including but no limited to onboard the train or event grounds.
  • Exposure to all weather conditions both day and night.

  • Willingness to take directions from multiple supervisors and work as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, professional attitude.
