Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Bridge Design Project Engineer III to join our Orange, CA office. This is a career-enhancing opportunity to contribute to the design and analysis of transportation structures across Los Angeles, Southern California, and the greater Western U.S. The role offers exposure to a wide variety of challenging projects and the chance to work within a dynamic and experienced bridge group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Structural Design and Analysis:

    • Prepare structural designs, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for transportation structures, including bridges, retaining walls, and drainage structures.
    • Conduct load rating analysis, rehabilitation concepts, and structure type evaluations.
  • Technical Expertise:

    • Utilize current engineering design software to perform detailed calculations and analyses.
    • Propose innovative approaches to solve new engineering challenges and identify discrepancies in results.
  • Collaboration and Coordination:

    • Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
    • Perform specific and limited portions of broader assignments under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Data Collection and Reporting:

    • Gather and correlate basic engineering data using established procedures.
    • Work on detailed or routine assignments involving calculations and simple tests.
  • Mentorship and Guidance:

    • Provide guidance and mentorship to entry-level engineers, fostering their development.
  • Project Management:

    • Perform work in accordance with agreed-upon budgets and schedules, with moderate supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or Structural Engineering (or related field); advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
  • 5+ years of bridge and other transportation structures (retaining walls, culverts, OH signs, etc.) design experience with Caltrans project delivery and other California / U.S. West Coast agencies.
  • Experience with Caltrans and AASHTO bridge design practices, techniques, and applicable Codes.
  • Knowledgeable of other standard engineering practices, techniques, and applicable Codes, such as IBC/CBC, AREMA, MRDC, etc.
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills, including technical report writing.
  • Structural problem analysis skills (including knowledge/use of design and calculation tools, software).
  • High proficiency with software such as MicroStation, LEAP Concrete/Bridge, PTC MathCAD, CSiBridge and/or MIDAS Civil?
  • High proficiency with CAD software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D)
  •  A current PE license in the State of CA.
