Job description

Mechanical Engineer / Project Manager
Lead complex building projects. Build trusted client relationships. Grow into your next level of leadership.
If you're a licensed Mechanical Engineer who enjoys combining technical design expertise with project leadership, client interaction, and team development, this is an opportunity to take on a highly visible role with an established multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm.
The firm is looking for a Mechanical Engineer / Project Manager to join its team in either Springfield or West Linn, Oregon. You'll lead multidisciplinary MEP projects, work directly with clients and project partners, and help guide engineers and designers through the successful delivery of technically complex building systems.
This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to stay connected to engineering while taking greater ownership of projects, relationships, and team success.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
  • Lead multidisciplinary MEP projects from planning and design through completion
  • Work on technically challenging institutional, healthcare, laboratory, and complex facility projects
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, architects, consultants, and project partners
  • Join a collaborative engineering firm where technical quality and relationships are equally important
  • Mentor and develop engineers and designers
  • Flexible hybrid environment for employees who live locally
  • Clear opportunities to advance into senior leadership or a subject matter expert track
  • Competitive compensation and company performance bonus

What You'll Do
As a Mechanical Project Manager, you'll take ownership of both the technical and relationship sides of project delivery.
You'll:
  • Lead mechanical and multidisciplinary MEP design projects
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, subconsultants, contractors, and clients
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and primary client contact throughout projects
  • Provide technical leadership on complex mechanical building systems
  • Review designs and help maintain high standards for quality and constructability
  • Mentor engineers and designers while encouraging accountability and professional growth
  • Identify project challenges early and drive practical solutions
  • Support long-term client relationships and future project opportunities
  • Collaborate across disciplines to deliver cohesive, high-quality designs

Technical Experience We're Looking For
You should bring broad mechanical building systems experience, ideally including several of the following:
  • HVAC systems
  • Central utility plants
  • Boilers and chillers
  • Steam systems
  • Utility distribution
  • Healthcare facilities
  • Laboratories
  • Institutional or other technically complex buildings
  • Multidisciplinary MEP design projects

What Makes Someone Successful Here
The strongest fit will be someone who is technically credible but also genuinely enjoys working with people.
You're likely to thrive if you:
  • Build trust easily with clients and colleagues
  • Communicate clearly and follow through on commitments
  • Enjoy solving complex technical and project challenges
  • Can confidently lead while remaining collaborative and approachable
  • Know when to delegate and how to keep a team moving forward
  • Enjoy mentoring less-experienced engineers
  • Approach client development through relationships rather than transactional selling
  • Are comfortable navigating difficult conversations and making decisions
  • Take ownership of project outcomes

Minimum Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Previous mechanical building systems design experience
  • Project management experience within mechanical engineering or MEP consulting
  • Experience working across multiple building systems and project types
  • Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or developing team members
  • Working knowledge of Revit as it relates to mechanical design

Location & Flexibility
There are opportunities available in:
  • Springfield, Oregon
  • West Linn, Oregon

This is a locally based hybrid position. Employees are expected to live within a reasonable commuting distance and participate consistently in the office, with flexibility to work from home as project and team needs allow.
Compensation & Benefits
The firm offers a competitive compensation package based on experience, along with:
  • Company performance bonus
  • 401(k) with employer contributions
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Flexible work schedules
  • Parental leave
  • Employee assistance program
  • Professional development assistance
  • Referral program
  • Relocation assistance
  • Retirement benefits

About the Firm
This is an established multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm specializing in thoughtful solutions for complex MEP building systems.
The team includes engineers, designers, and technicians who value technical excellence, collaboration, strong client relationships, and practical problem-solving. Rather than operating in silos, the firm emphasizes multidisciplinary teamwork and becoming a trusted resource to clients and project partners.
The culture is centered around serving clients, supporting the community, pursuing excellence, taking responsibility, sustainability, creativity, and doing high-quality work as a team.
If you're looking for an opportunity where you can lead projects, remain technically engaged, develop people, and build toward long-term leadership, this could be an excellent next step.
