Job description

Pharmacy Technician Supervisor - Retail - R10 The R10 Retail Pharmacy at MD Anderson Cancer Center is dedicated to providing exceptional pharmaceutical care and medication services to patients, caregivers, and employees. As an integral part of the patient care team, the pharmacy supports continuity of care by ensuring timely access to prescription medications, offering medication counseling, and promoting safe and effective treatment outcomes. The R10 team combines clinical expertise with a patient-centered approach, delivering compassionate service while helping patients navigate complex medication regimens throughout their cancer care journey.

We leverage advanced automation and robotic dispensing technology to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and patient safety in every step of the process. Ideal Candidate will have an Associate's Degree and Five years of experience as a pharmacy technician, including two years in a lead, supervisory or project management capacity. Candidate will have pharmacy experience training staff; experience in a leadership role, experience with people management.

Pharmacy Area Supervision & Operations Supervise pharmacy staff to ensure appropriate medication management, including: Procurement Storage Preparation Dispensing Delivery Maintain and uphold customer service standards. Participate in the recruitment and interview process for Pharmacy Technicians.

Oversee onboarding, training, and competency assessments for Pharmacy Technicians. Ensure adequate staffing coverage through effective scheduling and workforce planning. Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management throughout the year.

Complete employee evaluations and personnel documentation in a timely manner. Initiate corrective actions, document performance concerns, and escalate issues when appropriate. 2.

Pharmacy Systems, Quality Assurance & Project Management Function proficiently as a Pharmacy Technician across all pharmacy service areas and provide staffing support as needed. Demonstrate working knowledge of pharmacy technology, computer systems, and operational equipment. Monitor and maintain pharmacy equipment through routine inspections and service coordination.

Ensure Quality Assurance (QA) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities are consistently performed and documented. Identify and address environmental deficiencies and potential safety concerns within operational areas. Assess workflow and operational needs, implementing appropriate solutions to maintain efficiency.

Coordinate, delegate, and complete projects to support departmental goals and operational excellence. 3. Leadership & Team Development Monitor workflow and productivity to ensure timely completion of tasks and optimal staff utilization.

Collaborate with team members to evaluate, implement, and sustain process improvements. Partner with nursing and other departments to assess and address service needs. Lead by example through professionalism, accountability, strong work ethic, and effective communication.

Foster a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment. Demonstrate initiative by learning new procedures and integrating them into operations with minimal supervision. Develop, document, and implement policies and procedures to support safe, efficient, and compliant pharmacy operations.

Promote problem-solving and a patient-centered approach, working toward mutually beneficial solutions for staff and patient concerns. Education Required: Associate's Degree Preferred: Certificate from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program Licensure / Certification Required: Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) Certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Preferred: ACPE-approved IV (sterile products) certification Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT), if applicable Experience Required: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician At least 2 years in a lead, supervisory, or project management role Additional equivalent experience may substitute for the required degree on a one-to-one basis Completion of the Leading Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of supervisory/management experience Preferred: Experience training pharmacy staff Leadership experience People management experience OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
