Job description

Business Development Manager

The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, and expanding new business opportunities across regional and national retail chains, distributors, wholesalers, and reseller partners. The role focuses on generating new revenue, expanding existing customer relationships, and supporting Nassau Candy's continued growth across branded and private label product offerings.

Working closely with the Director of Sales, the Business Development Manager will identify new prospects, manage customer relationships, coordinate cross-functional projects, and execute sales strategies that drive profitable growth.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Identify and pursue new sales opportunities within grocery, specialty retail, convenience, mass retail, distributors, and reseller channels.
  • Prospect new customers through networking, referrals, industry events, and outbound sales efforts.
  • Develop and maintain a robust sales pipeline.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling customer presentations and product proposals.
  • Support negotiations and assist in closing new business opportunities.
  • Manage assigned customer relationships to increase sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct regular business reviews with customers.
  • Identify opportunities to expand product assortment and promotional programs.
  • Respond to customer requests and resolve issues in partnership with Customer Service and Operations.
  • Assist in developing annual sales plans for assigned accounts.
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts and pipeline reporting.
  • Track customer performance and recommend strategies for growth.
  • Participate in pricing discussions and promotional planning.
  • Work with Product Development, Marketing, Purchasing, Operations, Production, and Customer Service to support customer initiatives.
  • Coordinate new item launches and customer-specific projects.
  • Ensure customer expectations regarding lead times and delivery schedules are effectively communicated.
  • Monitor competitive activity and industry trends.
  • Identify opportunities for new products and market expansion.
  • Attend trade shows and customer meetings as assigned.
  • Maintain CRM records and sales activity.
  • Prepare monthly sales reports and forecasts.
  • Track key performance indicators and communicate progress to leadership.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 37 years of experience in business development, sales, or account management within consumer packaged goods, food manufacturing, specialty foods, or related industries.
  • Experience managing customer relationships and developing new business opportunities.
  • Experience working with distributors, wholesalers, retailers, or broker networks preferred.
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel as need, likely 10%.
  • Living in NY, NJ or CT preferred to be able to come on-site for meetings
