SUMMARY

The District Assessment Coordinator leads the planning, coordination, implementation, and reporting of district, state, and national assessments to support improved student learning outcomes, ensuring that all assessment activities comply with Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) requirements and district procedures while assisting educators in using assessment results effectively to inform instruction and continuous improvement. Collaborating with district leadership in academics, IT, student services, and school leaders, the coordinator ensures that assessments are administered accurately, securely, and efficiently.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills.  This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class. Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinates administration of K-12 local, state, and national assessments, including preparation, scheduling, training, test security, corrections, verification, and reporting in accordance with Minnesota Department of Education requirements.
  • Serves as the district point of contact for state accountability assessments, including MCA, MTAS, ACCESS for ELLs, and other required testing programs.
  • Develops and maintains assessment calendars, procedures, and training materials for school staff.
  • Maintains assessment data management systems, manages user access, and ensures secure handling of student assessment data.
  • Provides data entry and data management for multiple information systems and mines data from various information resources using a diverse base of tools and methods.
  • Supports the design, implementation, and facilitation of professional learning focused on effective assessment practices and the use of data to improve student learning.
  • Coordinates assessment reporting processes, including preparation of annual assessment reports and updates to district reporting platforms and website materials.
  • Supports federal and state reporting requirements, including accountability submissions and improvement planning processes.
  • Develops processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting aligned with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Supports interpretation of assessment results for multiple audiences, including district leadership, school teams, and instructional staff, with a focus on improving student learning outcomes.
  • Collaborates within the Research, Evaluation, and Assessment department to align assessment practices with district data strategies and student learning goals.
  • Manages multiple complex assessment and reporting projects simultaneously.
  • Establishes timelines, monitors progress, and coordinates work across departments to ensure successful implementation.
  • Evaluates the impact of assessment initiatives and supports continuous improvement of assessment systems and practices.
  • Promotes the Superintendent's goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis
 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines


Bachelor's degree in education, educational measurement, assessment, research, or a related field; AND five (5) years of professional experience in K-12 assessment coordination, educational data analysis, or related work, including experience working with state or district assessment programs and using Microsoft Excel for data organization, analysis, and reporting; OR a Master's degree in a related field plus three (3) years of relevant professional experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by Human Resources.

Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge of Minnesota state assessment systems and accountability requirements.
  • Understanding of assessment literacy, formative and summative assessment practices, and instructional improvement processes.
  • Knowledge of student data privacy requirements and test security procedures.
  • Familiarity with K-12 instructional and curriculum systems.

Skill in:

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to develop training materials and facilitate professional learning.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with school-based staff.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver's License may be required.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.
