Job description

How to Apply
A cover letter is required for consideration for this position and should be attached as the first page of your resume. The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position and outline skills and experience that directly relate to this position. Please include your GPA and undergraduate institution (if applicable) in your cover letter as well. Note that all of your application materials must be combined into a single document.
In addition to applying online with your cover letter and resume, please send your most recent academic transcript (college transcript if available; unofficial transcript acceptable) and the names and contact information of 2 recommenders directly to Drs. Richmond-Rakerd ( [email protected] ) and Rodriguez-Seijas ( [email protected] ).
Job Summary
The Psychopathology, Population Health, and Genetics (PPG) lab , directed by Dr. Leah Richmond-Rakerd, and the Stigma, Psychopathology, and Assessment (SPLAT) lab , directed by Dr. Craig Rodriguez-Seijas, are searching for a Full-Time Lab Coordinator (Research Technician Associate). The position will be distributed across labs, with 50% time toward duties in the PPG lab and 50% time toward duties in the SPLAT lab.
Projects in the PPG lab examine the development and outcomes of problems in self-regulation, including disinhibitory disorders, suicide and self-harm, and related mental-health conditions. Current research projects center on associations of self-regulation difficulties with later-life physical health and processes of aging. The lab's projects involve data from population-based administrative registers, longitudinal studies, and genetically-informative samples (e.g., studies of twins). The lab collaborates with researchers in New Zealand, Denmark, Norway, and elsewhere. For more information about the lab, visit: https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/richmond-rakerd-lab/ .
Projects in the SPLAT lab are focused on understanding the elevated prevalence of borderline personality disorder, and related psychopathology, among sexual and gender minority populations. Specifically, the lab is currently in the process of developing a new mixed-methods study aimed at understanding LGBTQ+ individuals' experiences with the diagnosis and subsequent treatment. The incoming lab coordinator will work with Dr. Rodriguez-Seijas and other lab members to plan and execute the study. For more information about the lab, visit: https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/splat-lab/splat/
This position is ideal for those interested in pursuing graduate training in clinical psychology, developmental psychology, or public health. A very successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to the writing of empirical papers. Dr. Richmond-Rakerd's and Dr. Rodriguez-Seijas's labs both involve a focus on health disparities and externalizing outcomes. Dr. Richmond-Rakerd's lab has ongoing projects concerning links between mental and physical health, and Dr. Rodriguez-Seijas's lab has ongoing projects focused on understanding various models of psychopathology (e.g., the HiTOP model, the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders [AMPD]) and how they interface with psychosocial stressors experienced by LGBTQ+ individuals. Thus, there are a variety of areas of research focus for applicants to consider.
Responsibilities*
  • Coordinating lab projects
  • Training undergraduate students on their projects and tasks
  • Recruiting and coordinating participant interviews
  • Organizing and cleaning/analyzing data
  • Submission of data-use agreements and IRB applications
  • Other general administrative duties (e.g., maintaining lab websites)
  • Conducting statistical code review and replication checks of analyses for empirical reports

Note: As some of these projects are being done jointly with other labs, the position may entail coordinating with these other labs. Thus, much of the position will include collecting data from and interacting with participants, while the other portion will include logistics and management.
Required Qualifications*
  • High school diploma or Associate's degree
  • 1 year of research experience
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong interpersonal skills

Desired Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in psychology or a related field, and interest in clinical psychology, developmental psychology, or public health
  • Experience in several (but not all) of the following areas: statistical coding experience (e.g., R, SAS), computer programming experience, psychiatric interviewing, working with underserved individuals in the community, and experience with working with LGBTQ+ populations.
