Job description
ARCHITECT MARKET SECTOR LEAD, HERITAGE, QUEBEC
Base to Montreal, Qc
A recognized leader in architecture for more than 65 years, our Montreal office has built a legacy that has helped shape the Quebec and Canadian landscape and continues to be a source of inspiration and pride for our entire team. Our diverse team is both young and experienced, rigorous and dynamic, but above all attuned to the challenges of our time.
Our Quebec offices undertake large-scale projects across a wide range of sectors, including heritage, culture, education, and transportation.
We have left our mark through projects such as the restoration of the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth Hotel, the rehabilitation of the West Block on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, the reconstruction of the Voltigeurs de Quebec Armoury in Quebec City, the Complexe 4 Glaces in Gatineau, and the New Courthouse Complex in Old Montreal.
HERITAGE AT A49
Our Heritage Practice has extensive experience in the restoration, rehabilitation, and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. We have a deep understanding of historic building systems, conservation methodologies and technologies, best practices, design considerations, community sensitivities associated with heritage assets, and the cultural significance of the built environment.
This expertise enables Architecture49 to successfully navigate the complexities of preserving and adapting heritage properties while meeting contemporary requirements for functionality, accessibility, sustainability, and life safety.
Our heritage work is guided by a rigorous and collaborative process that balances respect for historical authenticity with the evolving needs of building users and communities. It reinforces our commitment to design excellence, sustainability, and cultural stewardship, allowing Architecture49 to deliver projects that preserve heritage value, strengthen community identity, and create vibrant, resilient, and enduring places for future generations.
Our design approach promotes sustainable development by extending the life of existing buildings, reducing the environmental impacts associated with demolition and new construction, and preserving the cultural narratives embedded in historic places.
Beyond project delivery, the Heritage sector enriches our practice through research, innovation, and knowledge sharing. We take pride in helping restore these important buildings to meaningful and sustainable use.
QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Architecture with eligibility for professional licensure in Quebec.
10+ years of experience, preferably within the heritage sector.
Recognized expertise in heritage conservation, restoration, or rehabilitation is considered a strong asset.
A functional level of English is required, as the successful candidate will be expected to work on initiatives outside Quebec, collaborate with colleagues across Canada, and participate in communications and project work conducted in English.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Regional Sector Lead, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success and growth of our Heritage practice within the Quebec region. You will work closely with the Quebec Region Managing Principal to support market growth by targeting new client development opportunities aligned with organizational objectives.
In this role, you will also develop client retention strategies, ensure project goals are achieved, and leverage regional successes at both the regional and national levels to strengthen and expand the Heritage sector.
The role combines strategic leadership, operational excellence, and thought leadership, with responsibilities including:
Business Rigour & Financial Accountability
Lead the development and management of the Quebec Heritage Sector's revenue generation and project development activities in support of Architecture49's annual financial objectives and growth targets.
Lead the development of backlog and net revenue forecasts to support business development initiatives and long-term growth strategies.
Provide professional architectural seal on drawings and contract documents for projects where you serve as the supervising architect.
Targeted Growth & Brand Enhancement
Develop and advance the Heritage Practice in Quebec while serving as a recognized thought leader on behalf of Architecture49.
Collaborate with the Quebec Region Managing Principal to develop and implement strategic growth plans for targeted markets.
Build, maintain, and strengthen long-term client relationships while identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.
Employee Engagement & Alignment
Support capacity building, training, mentorship, and professional development of Architecture49's regional heritage resources.
Foster knowledge sharing and succession planning to ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of the Heritage sector.
Operational Excellence & Project Quality
Review and analyze monthly operational metrics including team utilization, project performance, revenue and profitability, backlog, business development initiatives, invoicing, work in progress, accounts receivable, overhead management, client satisfaction, and overall quality of deliverables.
Lead major Heritage projects as required and provide professional architectural oversight.
Contribute to the leadership and ongoing development of the Architecture49 Montreal office.
Annual compensation
- QC: $119,900 - $159,200
Disclosure: The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The wage range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
