What does a restoration company do?

A restoration company specializes in repairing and restoring properties that have been damaged by events such as water, fire, mold, or storms. Their services often include cleaning, deodorizing, structural repairs, and removal of hazardous materials to return properties to their pre-damage condition. Restoration companies work with homeowners, businesses, and insurance companies to assess damage, create restoration plans, and carry out the necessary repairs efficiently and safely. They also help with documentation for insurance claims and ensure that the property meets health and safety standards after restoration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a restoration company role, and why are they important?

To thrive in a restoration company role, you need knowledge of construction techniques, water and fire damage remediation, and relevant safety standards, often supported by IICRC or similar certifications. Familiarity with moisture detection tools, drying equipment, and restoration management software is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help professionals excel when assisting clients during stressful situations. These skills ensure restoration projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to high-quality standards, supporting client satisfaction and business reputation.

What types of projects can I expect to work on as part of a restoration company team?

As a team member in a restoration company, you'll typically work on projects related to water, fire, mold, and storm damage restoration for residential and commercial properties. Daily responsibilities often include assessing damaged sites, performing cleanup and repairs, and communicating with clients and insurance adjusters.
