Position Title: Server
Shifts Available: *Note that this is a non-tipped position.
  • BLU Restaurant: PT Server(11a-7:30p or 3p-7:30p) + weekends

Position Overview: Provide service including serving food and beverages, cleaning tables and re-setting tables. Responsible for complete sanitation of dining room and equipment. Reports to Dining Services Supervisor and/or Dining Services Manager.
Our servers are responsible for providing quality customer service to our residents and guests by being friendly, professional and timely in our efforts. Applicants will need to possess a drive for excellence, have great interpersonal and communication skills while maintaining a professional appearance. Friendly, energetic and highly-motivated are the traits that will help you excel in this fast paced environment. After a year of employment, you are eligible to apply for scholarships. We offer flexible work schedules and hours are not open as late as most restaurants!
Server Essential Job Functions:
  • Ensures the dining experience is enjoyable through cheerful behavior and carefully following established procedures for merchandising, plate presentation and service
  • Communicate with residents to take meal orders and provide service during meals
  • Serve full table service to all residents and guests
  • Set up and break down of dining room
  • Clean up of wait station and other areas
  • Stocking of all items used in work procedure
  • Must be personable and maintain a positive pleasant demeanor at all times
  • Promptly and accurately report any resident problems, inquiries, requests and/or concerns to supervisor
  • Serve food to residents according to their order
  • Accurately set up workstation with all necessary items prior to the start of service
  • Responsible for the proper food handling and preparation in accordance with Health Department regulations
  • Responsible to keep clean and sanitize the equipment used
  • Communicate to manager about any out of stock items
  • Make menu changes only with the consent of the manager or supervisor
  • Have sufficient dexterity to handle food/equipment efficiently & safely
  • Report any faulty equipment in need of repair
  • Answer phone and take messages or take out orders
  • Substitute for any position within the department
  • Cut pies and cakes properly
  • Adheres to company policies and procedures
  • Attend departmental education and all required in-service training/education
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident/family and facility information
  • Respond to all fire alarms and assist in the evacuation of residents when needed
  • Cooperate with staff of other departments when needed
  • Represent the organization through professional demeanor and attitude
  • Provide quality customer service in all interactions with residents, guests and staff
  • Perform other duties as required

Server Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; may be working toward high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to understand and follow both written and verbal instruction
  • Serving experience preferred

Server Critical Skills/Expertise:
  • Must be able to read and write and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to work well with others, including staff, supervisor, residents, families, volunteers and the public

Server Equipment Skills:
  • Must be able to operate and clean beverage machine, coffee machine, microwave oven and knives

Server Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time during meal shift
  • Able to bend, stoop and reach overhead
  • Able to lift 30-pound tray of food and carry into dining room
  • Must be able to push, lift and carry up to 30 pounds

Server Working Conditions:
  • Clean, well lit, well-ventilated kitchen and dining room. Kitchen is warm and humid at times. Must be able to withstand heat and changes in temperature when going in/out of walk-in cooler and freezer
