Job description

The USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology is seeking a Part-Time Resource Employee (Research Assistant) to join Dr. Janet Choi Laboratory. Working directly under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Janet Choi, the Resource Employee (Research Assistant) will support clinical and community-based research projects focused on hearing loss, healthy aging, hearing healthcare access, and related outcomes among older adults. The Resource Employee (Research Assistant) will assist with participant recruitment, data collection, study coordination, and research administration across both USC and community research sites.

The successful candidate will be motivated, proactive, resourceful, and detail-oriented. The position requires excellent organizational and communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and strong attention to detail. Candidates should have experience interacting with research participants, maintaining accurate research records, and working in clinical, community, or academic research settings.

Essential job duties include, but are not limited to:

Assist with participant recruitment and retention for research studies involving older adults.

Conduct prescreening of potential participants using electronic medical records (EMR) and study eligibility criteria.

Contact prospective and enrolled participants via telephone, email, and other approved communication methods.

Schedule research appointments and coordinate study visits.

Assist with participant onboarding, informed consent procedures, and study enrollment.

Conduct data collection activities, including surveys, questionnaires, interviews, hearing screenings, and other research assessments, as appropriate.

Enter, verify, clean, and maintain research data using REDCap and other study databases.

Maintain accurate and organized research records, regulatory documents, and study files.

Attend research team meetings and contribute to study coordination and ongoing research activities.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a health-related, neuroscience, psychology, public health, communication sciences and disorders, social science, or related field.

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary research team.

Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate research documentation.

Ability to interact professionally and compassionately with older adult participants.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in clinical, community-based, or academic research.

Premedical and pre-health students interested in gaining hands-on clinical research experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Experience working with older adults, community-based programs, or healthcare settings.

Experience using REDCap, electronic medical records (EMR), data management systems, qualitative interviewing, or statistical software such as STATA, SAS, or R.

Proficiency in Spanish, Korean, or Mandarin.

Experience conducting participant recruitment, informed consent, or research data collection.

Follows established USC and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, includingadherence to theworkplaceCode of Conduct and Compliance Plan.

This position is hybrid on-site and employee must report to work at the USC Health Science Campus in Los Angeles, CA when scheduled. Work hours and on-site days may be subject to change depending on business needs.

The hourly rate range for this position is$20.00 - $21.61.
