Job Description

The Media Group at NBCU supports a powerhouse collection of consumer-first brands including Peacock, NBC, Bravo, NBC Sports, and NBCU International. With unequalled scale, our teams make the most out of every opportunity to collaborate and learn from one another. We’re always looking for ways to innovate faster, accelerate our growth and consistently offer the very best in consumer experience. But most of all, we’re backed by a culture of respect. We embrace authenticity and inspire people to thrive.

As our Senior Software Engineer, you’ll join the Content Delivery Engineering team (CDE) within NBCUniversal’s Global Video Engineering organization in New York City, USA. Your mission is to get involved with delivering outstanding VOD, live event, and linear streaming experiences to millions of viewers across our US, UK, EU, and Africa services - including Peacock, SkyShowtime, Showmax, and NOW/WOW.

You’ll collaborate daily with colleagues across the US, UK and beyond – excellent communication skills are essential. Our team specializes in large-scale Multi-Content Delivery Network design and operations, performance telemetry and analytics, selection & interfacing with content origins via multiple workflows - dynamic ad insertion, manifest manipulation and integrating new player technologies.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance software systems and features—primarily in Go—used to deliver world-class video content at massive scale for brands like Peacock, SkyShowtime, Showmax, and NOW/WOW.
  • Build reliable, testable, and user-focused services supporting key streaming workflows, such as VOD, live events, linear channels, dynamic ad insertion, and manifest manipulation.
  • Participate in thoughtful and consistent code reviews that promote high code quality, clear architectural patterns, and healthy engineering culture.
  • Partner closely with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to architect systems that are highly available, resilient, performant, and fault-tolerant across multiple regions.
  • Leverage observability tooling (metrics, logs, traces) and performance analytics to detect issues proactively and drive fast, data-driven root-cause analysis.
  • Contribute to the design and evolution of multi-CDN strategies, routing logic, and origin workflows that ensure exceptional global streaming performance.
  • Collaborate daily with engineers across the US, UK, EU, and Africa—requiring clear communication and strong documentation skills.
  • Influence technical direction, system architecture, and best practices as a senior member of the Content Delivery Engineering team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on development in Go (preferred) or Python.
  • Experience deploying and operating applications in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) using containers and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD workflows and experience using Git-based repositories, automated testing frameworks, and build pipelines.
  • Practical experience with Site Reliability Engineering concepts such as reliability targets (SLIs/SLOs), auto-scaling, distributed systems reliability, or incident response.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate design decisions and collaborate with distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with CDNs (e.g., Akamai, CloudFront, Fastly, Cloudflare) or streaming media delivery systems.
  • Understanding of video streaming technologies such as HLS, DASH, manifests, origins, or content routing.
  • Experience building systems that support global scale, multi-region deployments, or high availability architectures.
