Job Title: Purity Spring Resort - Gardener

Company: Highway West Vacations

Location: Purity Spring Resort - NH

Status: Full-Time, Seasonal, Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $22.00 - $25.00, depending on experience

Supervisor: Regional Director, General Manager


Job Description:

The Gardener at Purity Spring Resort is responsible for the general care and maintenance of gardened areas. Using plant knowledge and gardening skills, Gardeners create and maintain garden areas, making sure the plants are healthy and receive all aspects of the right care. Gardeners will work outdoors in various weather conditions and use hand tools or light equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Planting all types of plants, including flowers, shrubs, and trees.
  • Maintaining health of plants by watering, fertilizing, pruning, and dead heading.
  • Identifying and treating diseases, pest infestations and other issues with garden plants.
  • Using and maintaining gardening tools.
  • Maintaining overall appearance of garden areas.
  • Apply and maintain mulch, borders of gardens, thinning and propagating of plants.
  • Spring cleanup, to include, raking and removing debris to prepare for planting and to prepare growing perennials.
  • Prep garden for fall/winter seasons to include cutting back, pruning, or removal of dead plants.
  • Providing recommendations for garden design, choice of plants appropriate for different locations.
  • Following all safety guidelines for applying chemicals and using equipment.
  • Reports to Maintenance Supervisors and/or GM/AGMs.


Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Education: Must have a high school diploma, GED or working towards one of the two.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of job-related experience or knowledge.
  • Ability to work outdoors during a variety of weather conditions.
  • Reach/squat/bend/carry/push/pull lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Flexibility with scheduled shifts but must be dependable and be able to work a consistent schedule to maintain care of plants.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills required with staff and guests.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making to deal with gardening problems.
  • Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment with efficiency.
  • Ability to maintain guest and employee confidentiality.
  • Strong work ethic, commitment, and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and occasionally as part of a team.
  • Strong knowledge of plant care and needs.
  • Experience working with plants and gardening tools/equipment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures regarding all aspects of gardening.
  • Math skills to calculate fertilizer and pesticide application rates and chemical dilutions.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
