Job description

Overview
Focus Factory Construction Support Engineering has an opening for a highly motivated engineer in Mobile, AL. This role is supporting construction of Virginia Class and Columbia Class deck structures with a focus on outfitting modules. The Focus Factory environment consists of supplier personnel being utilized as embedded EB contractors. The Focus Factory "builds to EB paper" and requires strict adherence to the EB policies, procedures, processes and work packages for Virginia Class and Columbia Class construction. Electric Boat is looking for engineers to be part of the deck plate engineering teams located at the Focus Factory facilities.
Responsibilities:
  • Interpretation and translation of shipbuilding specifications, design requirements, drawing requirements, contractual requirements.
  • Deck-plate over-sight to resolve problems during construction operations to ensure compliance with EB policies and procedures.
  • Support and resolve complex construction issues to prevent and minimize schedule delay.
  • Development of technical rationale to support approval of nonconforming conditions.
  • Attending all production meetings, providing status of hold ups and driving completion of actions supporting construction such as Engineering Report (ER), Change Request (CR), Change Notice (CN), TIR UNSAT, OTAR resolution.
  • Collaboration with engineers of other facets and companies.
  • Develop and approve fixturing and lifting and handling plans to support site specific evolutions.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering is required.
  • 1-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience.
  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance is required.
  • Construction engineering experience

Preferred
  • Preferred knowledge of Teamcenter and Columbia Class design.
  • Preferred knowledge of JCALs and Virginia Class design.
  • ER/CR/CN resolution experience and familiarity with the change management process.

Skills
  • Effective troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • A capability to work against deadlines and prioritize work assignments accordingly.
  • A foundational understanding of piping/electrical/ventilation systems and specification requirements.
  • Willingness to work paid overtime. Evening and/or weekend work is required based on department/project needs.
  • Willingness to travel to other Focus Factory sites as required.
  • Must be highly motivated and be able to perform independently under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as is the ability to interface effectively with senior Electric Boat personnel, tradesman, foreman, program office.
  • Ability as maintaining a questioning attitude and adapt to a variety of tasking.
  • Proven ability to work, act, and positively contribute in a team environment is required.
