Company Overview

Our client is a specialized resin trading and market intelligence company serving participants across the North American plastics supply chain. The business purchases and sells physical commodity-grade resin, including domestic and international prime, wide-spec, and offgrade material, and supports transactions from initial pricing and negotiation through credit, logistics, and delivery.

Position Summary

The Resin Trader will develop commercial relationships, identify physical trading opportunities, and execute profitable purchases and sales of polyethylene and polypropylene. The right candidate understands that success depends on disciplined market judgment, consistent relationship building, accurate execution, and close coordination with logistics and credit. This position suits an experienced resin trader, polymer salesperson, distributor representative, or procurement professional who can work comfortably in a fast-moving spot market.

Key Responsibilities

Buy and sell physical polyethylene and polypropylene, including prime, wide-spec, and offgrade material, across railcar, bulk truck, packaged truckload, and container movements.

Develop and maintain relationships with resin producers, distributors, brokers, traders, processors, converters, and other qualified buyers and sellers.

Prospect for new business, follow up consistently, and build a dependable pipeline of supply and customer opportunities.

Evaluate bids, offers, inventory positions, regional availability, freight, and market timing to identify transactions with acceptable margin and risk.

Prepare quotes and negotiate product, price, volume, payment, freight, and delivery terms with customers and suppliers.

Manage each transaction from inquiry through execution, coordinating with operations, logistics, credit, and accounting to support accurate and timely delivery and payment.

Monitor spot pricing, contract movements, feedstock trends, production changes, imports and exports, and supply chain disruptions that may affect resin values and availability.

Maintain accurate account, opportunity, trade, and follow-up records and provide reliable activity and pipeline reporting.

Protect confidential commercial information and conduct business with sound judgment and integrity.

Share relevant pricing and market observations with the market intelligence team while preserving customer and transaction confidentiality.

Qualifications

Direct experience in physical commodity resin trading, polymer sales, plastics distribution, resin procurement, or closely related petrochemical commercial work.

Working knowledge of polyethylene and polypropylene grades, applications, quality categories, pricing, and transportation methods.

Demonstrated ability to develop accounts, negotiate effectively, protect margin, and move transactions to completion.

Commercial discipline involving inventory exposure, freight, credit considerations, product documentation, and transaction risk.

Clear and professional communication by phone, email, and video, with strong follow-through and attention to detail.

Comfort using spreadsheets, customer relationship management systems, market data, and standard business software.

A bachelor's degree is preferred. Equivalent directly relevant industry experience will be considered.

Remote Candidate Requirements

Candidates seeking a fully remote arrangement should have an established record in resin trading or polymer sales, meaningful industry relationships, and experience independently managing commercial opportunities from development through execution. Remote eligibility will be evaluated individually based on the depth and relevance of that experience.

What Success Looks Like

Consistent growth in qualified supplier and customer relationships.

Profitable transactions supported by disciplined pricing and risk decisions.

Accurate coordination across sales, credit, logistics, and delivery.

Credible market feedback that strengthens both trading decisions and industry analysis.
