Job description

A Day in the Life:
The Senior Residual Value Economist will be responsible for developing and managing forecasts for residual values and setting the strategy for optimizing, protecting, and enhancing the residual values of Hertz's fleet of vehicles.

Starting salary is $140K; commensurate with experience. 

What You'll Do:

  • Provide vision and leadership for the residual value management function at Hertz 
  • Collaborate with the Data Science team on the development of residual value forecasts utilizing all available industry data and Hertz's own car sales data 
  • Provide residual value support to enable Hertz to develop short and long term strategies for vehicle acquisition, fleet rotation, and car sales optimization to maximize long term profitability of the company
  • Partner with and develop strong working relationships cross-divisionally with Finance, Accounting, Procurement, Car Sales, and Fleet Planning to establish aligned residual value strategies.
  • Serve as Hertz's subject matter expert for automotive market trends and external economic factors impacting residual values and fleet depreciation
  • Monitor market conditions, competitor and OEM activity, and supply/demand trends for risks and opportunities
  • Build strong relationships with Guide Books, OEMs, and auction/retail partners to protect and enhance residual values. 
  • Create dashboards and real-time reporting tools for both executive leadership as well as operational teams to empower them with robust residual value information 
  • Craft robust executive level presentations with succinct messages and conclusions
  • Develop training programs and resources to enhance the general understanding of residual values and how they are affected by industry and economic factors

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, Finance, Economics, Business, or related field. 
  • 3+ years of experience in residual value management
  • Strong analytical and data skills and experience working with large datasets and data analytical tools
  • Robust communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable business insights
  • Strong executive presence
  • Experience managing diverse teams
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and complex environment
