Position Summary:

Residential Solar Apprentice

The Residential Solar Apprentice is a full-time role, responsible for supporting all aspects of project installation. This person works with a crew to complete array installation including layout, roof attachment, racking and module assembly, combiner box installation, home run wiring, battery installation and commissioning.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure personal, crew and job site safety at all times
  • Ensure all necessary materials and tools arrive to the job site
  • Ensure all solar and storage installations are completed to system design specifications and meet expected top-quality standards
  • Ensure install resources are optimally utilized
  • Provide excellent customer service to homeowners
  • Assist with delivery of installation documentation in a timely manner
  • Support tool management and proper maintenance of install vehicle

Essential Functions (Specific Tasks/Deliverables):

  • Stage materials and tools and load vans
  • Perform quality roof penetrations
  • Assemble racking and mounting systems
  • Place and attach panels
  • Ground and wire modules and combiner box
  • Perform voltage testing
  • Assist with general site preparation and clean up
  • Driving to customer sites and Namaste Solar offices

Standards & Expectations:

  • Develop skills and knowledge in solar PV and Storage installations
  • Participate in 3-5 PV system installations per week
  • Assist with completion of installation reports day of installation
  • Assure installations are above industry quality standards
  • Maintain tool management standards
  • Complete required safety training quarterly
  • Excellent teamwork skills – ability to foster a positive team environment through collaborative decision making and effective communication

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in construction
  • Basic understanding of solar PV installations
  • Understanding of tool use and familiarity with construction best practices
  • Comfortably able to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, work with tools, and work on rooftops in varying temperatures
  • Have reliable transportation to work along the front range and a clean driving record
  • Have a basic set of hand tools
  • Good at problem solving and following directions
  • Highly organized and good follow through
  • Able to multi-task and set priorities
  • Effectively coordinate and communicate with others
  • Able to succeed in a fast paced, community environment

Valued but not required skills & experience:

  • NABCEP certification
  • OSHA-10 safety certification
  • Previous experience installing solar PV
  • Ability to read and understand field layouts
  • Basic understanding of grid-tied PV system design
  • Basic understanding of electrical wire sizing and conduit connections
  • Previous experience as a foreman or crew leader
  • Proficient with computers and the following applications: Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, and Smartsheets

Physical demands & work environment:

  • Ability to commute to Boulder or Denver office/job sites as required.
  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift and climb ladders to access roofs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Driving required to site locations
  • Work environment: The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate. Work environment changes from day to day: installation on roofs of all pitches. The daily temperature varies from hot to cold depending on the season.
