A Residential Interior Designer is a professional who plans, designs, and coordinates the aesthetic and functional features of interior spaces in private homes. They work closely with homeowners to create living environments that reflect the client's tastes, needs, and lifestyle, while also considering factors such as space planning, lighting, color schemes, and furniture selection. Interior Designer

On-site with local project-site travel

We build more than homes; we build trust. If you're the kind of person who loves transforming ideas into beautiful, functional spaces while keeping clients, materials, and timelines organized, this is an exciting opportunity to grow your interior design career in residential construction.

You'll guide homeowners through the selection process, coordinate materials and design details, and work closely with our sales, construction, marketing, supplier, and trade-partner teams. This position is ideal for a creative and highly organized designer who takes pride in both the vision behind a space and the detailed work required to bring it to life.

Key Responsibilities
Client Relations
  • Collaborate with the sales team to understand each client's timetable, preferences, budget, key needs, and potential obstacles
  • Establish high-level design objectives involving interior style, color, finishes, materials, and budget parameters
  • Create selection schedules, coordinate client meetings, and keep homeowners on track with decisions and deadlines
  • Guide clients by presenting thoughtful design options that complement their preferences and the overall home
  • Attend pre-construction meetings, review contract details, and clearly communicate next steps
  • Prepare, obtain authorization for, and communicate change orders to clients and internal and external project partners
Project and Material Coordination
  • Stay informed about upcoming builds, active projects, and construction schedules
  • Coordinate material selections, quotes, samples, orders, deliveries, and installation timelines
  • Monitor quote-expiration dates and verify schedules with Project Managers, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Place accurate material orders and follow through to ensure timely delivery
  • Inspect in-house material deliveries for damage and prepare packages for job-site delivery
  • Prepare and update cost breakdowns, material options, and change-order details
  • Prepare subcontractor frame packs and project site binders accurately and on time
  • Maintain accurate final selections and project information in project management software
Model Design
  • Help develop compelling interior and exterior concepts for model homes
  • Contribute to new home-plan concepts, plan revisions, and budget discussions
  • Stage and de-stage model homes in coordination with marketing and construction teams
  • Maintain an organized, attractive, and functional design center
Team Success
  • Participate in production meetings and contribute to scheduling and workload planning
  • Support process improvements and stronger collaboration across departments
  • Communicate consistently with clients, internal teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and other external partners
  • Help ensure a smooth building process by taking ownership of design details and following through on commitments
Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of color, texture, finishes, materials, and spatial-design principles, with confidence applying these principles when working with clients
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Able to manage multiple clients, projects, deadlines, orders, and changing priorities
  • Confident communicator who can work effectively with homeowners, salespeople, Project Managers, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Basic proficiency with Adobe programs, Publisher, image-editing tools, and Microsoft Office
  • Experience preparing selections, material orders, cost information, or change orders is strongly preferred
  • Formal education in Interior Design required; associate degree or higher preferred
  • 4 to 7 years of residential interior design experience preferred
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant residential-design experience will be considered
  • Architecture note: Cypress Homes' structural plans and architectural drafting are handled by a partner team. This position is focused specifically on interior design expertise, including client selections, material sourcing, finishes, design execution, model design, and project timelines.
Why You'll Love It
  • Creative impact: Help shape homes that clients will enjoy for years
  • Client connection: Guide homeowners through one of the most exciting parts of the building process
  • Variety: Balance client meetings, design work, material coordination, model-home staging, and project-site involvement
  • Collaboration: Work closely with a knowledgeable and supportive residential construction team
  • Paid holidays and generous PTO
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance options
  • Company-paid life, short-term disability, long-term disability, and AD&D insurance
  • Long-term stability with opportunities for professional growth
Full-Time, On-Site

Pay Range: $26.00 to $29.00 per hour, depending on experience

This compensation range is intended for candidates with approximately 4-7 years of relevant residential interior design experience. Candidates with less experience may be considered, but compensation may be adjusted based on experience and qualifications.

If you're creative, detail-oriented, and excited to turn client preferences into cohesive, thoughtfully designed homes, we want you on the Cypress team.
