What is a residential electrical helper?

Residential Electrical Helpers assist licensed electricians with installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems in homes. Their duties often include carrying materials, preparing work areas, pulling wires, and cleaning up job sites. They work under the supervision of more experienced electricians and learn valuable skills on the job. This role is ideal for those seeking to start a career in the electrical trade, as it provides hands-on experience and opportunities for advancement. Safety and willingness to learn are important qualities for success in this position.

What are some common challenges faced by a residential electrical helper during their first few months on the job?

New Residential Electrical Helpers often face challenges such as adapting to the fast-paced nature of job sites, learning to identify and use a variety of electrical tools and materials, and understanding safety protocols. Working closely with licensed electricians, helpers must quickly pick up communication skills and be proactive in assisting with tasks like running wire, installing outlets, and maintaining a clean work area. Overcoming the initial learning curve is important, but most helpers find that asking questions and staying organized helps them adapt successfully.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a residential electrical helper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Residential Electrical Helper, you need a basic understanding of electrical systems, safety practices, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and the National Electrical Code (NEC) is important, and OSHA safety certification can be valuable. These skills and qualities ensure safe, efficient work and contribute to the smooth progress of residential electrical projects.

Job description

Residential Electrical Sales Consultant
$150K-$250K+ Income Potential | Pre-Qualified Leads | Residential Service & Installation
This is not a typical electrician role.
We are hiring a Residential Electrical Sales Consultant to run pre-qualified residential service and installation opportunities. This role is built for a service electrician, electrical estimator, or sales-minded technician who enjoys working with customers, explaining solutions, and earning based on performance.
You will meet with homeowners, diagnose electrical needs, present options, and close work. This is a sales-first role for someone who understands electrical systems, communicates well, and wants more income, more impact, and more ownership of the customer experience.
If you are good with people, confident discussing price, and know you are capable of more than a standard technician role, this may be the opportunity you have been looking for.
Why Top Performers Like This Role
You are not chasing cold leads.
You are not guessing what to sell.
You are not left alone after the sale.
We provide:
  • Pre-qualified opportunities
  • A structured, proven sales process
  • Training and coaching
  • Strong installation team support
  • Clear expectations and accountability
  • Real income upside based on performance

This is a true revenue-driving role - not a hybrid guessing game.
Your job is to diagnose accurately, communicate clearly, build trust, and close the right solution for the customer.
What You'll Do
As an Electrical Sales Consultant, you will:
  • Run approximately 3-4 pre-qualified opportunities per day
  • Meet with homeowners to evaluate electrical needs
  • Diagnose issues and identify the best solutions
  • Present Good / Better / Best options
  • Educate customers and build trust
  • Confidently present pricing and ask for the sale
  • Sell residential electrical service and installation projects
  • Properly scope jobs for handoff to the installation team
  • Set accurate expectations with the customer
  • Deliver a 5-star customer experience
  • Consistently produce strong weekly sold revenue

With the right skill set and execution, this role is designed for consultants who can produce $40K-$60K+ in weekly sold revenue through residential electrical opportunities such as service upgrades, panel replacements, safety corrections, EV chargers, lighting, troubleshooting-related repairs, and other residential electrical projects.
Type of Work
This role is primarily focused on residential service and installation sales.
Approximate mix:
  • 90% residential service and installation
  • 10% light commercial

Most of your time will be spent in customers' homes, identifying needs, presenting solutions, and helping homeowners make informed decisions.
This Is a Sales Role - Not an Install Role
This is not a production electrician position.
That said, you must be comfortable physically inspecting job conditions when needed. This may include:
  • Inspecting electrical panels
  • Looking in crawlspaces
  • Looking in attics
  • Reviewing jobsite conditions
  • Confirming scope before handoff to the install team

Occasionally, you may make a minor adjustment or support a simple immediate resolution when it protects the customer experience. However, your primary responsibility is diagnosing, selling, scoping, and handing off work - not performing installations.
What You Can Earn
This role is designed for someone who wants to earn based on performance.
Compensation includes:
  • $60,000 annual draw against commission
  • Uncapped commission structure
  • High income upside for strong performers

Typical annual earnings:
  • $120K-$170K for solid performers
  • $170K-$220K for strong performers
  • $220K-$300K+ for elite performers

This income opportunity is built for someone who can communicate, diagnose, present options, and close work consistently.
Qualified candidates will receive a clear walkthrough of the compensation plan during the interview process.
What We're Looking For
You may be a great fit if you are:
  • A service electrician who enjoys working with homeowners
  • An electrical estimator ready for higher earning potential
  • A sales-minded technician who wants a bigger opportunity
  • A residential service professional who understands how to build trust
  • Someone who is confident, coachable, competitive, and customer-focused

You do not need to be a "pushy salesperson."
You do need to be comfortable leading conversations, presenting pricing, and asking for the sale.
Must-Have Skills
The right candidate will have:
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Electrical service, estimating, or field experience
  • Ability to build trust quickly with homeowners
  • Confidence presenting options and pricing
  • Willingness to ask for the sale
  • Ability to think through problems and recommend solutions
  • Professional appearance and attitude
  • Strong follow-through and attention to detail
  • Ability to work within a proven sales process
  • Desire to be coached and held accountable

Customer Experience Matters Here
We do not measure success by revenue alone.
Our best consultants create customers who trust us, refer us, and are excited to leave great reviews.
We expect our team to:
  • Communicate clearly
  • Explain options honestly
  • Set accurate expectations
  • Follow through on commitments
  • Protect the customer experience
  • Represent the company professionally

The best person for this role is not just a closer.
They are a trusted advisor who helps homeowners make confident decisions.
Benefits and Support
We provide the tools, structure, and support needed to win.
Benefits and support include:
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Pre-qualified opportunities
  • Proven sales process
  • Training and coaching
  • Installation team support
  • Growth and advancement opportunities
  • High-performance culture
  • Clear expectations and accountability

Additional details such as schedule, vehicle/fuel support, tools, paid time off, and commission payout structure will be reviewed during the interview process.
Who This Role Is NOT For
This role is not a fit for someone who:
  • Wants hourly stability without performance expectations
  • Is uncomfortable discussing pricing
  • Avoids asking for the sale
  • Prefers working behind the scenes
  • Wants to remain strictly in a tools-only role
  • Does not want to be coached
  • Struggles with accountability
  • Is not comfortable working directly with homeowners

This is a high-performance role with high upside. Expectations are clear, and results matter.
Who This Role IS For
This role is for someone who knows they are capable of more.
It is for the electrician, estimator, or sales-minded technician who wants to:
  • Earn more
  • Take ownership of the customer experience
  • Use their electrical knowledge in a higher-impact role
  • Work with pre-qualified opportunities
  • Be rewarded for performance
  • Grow into a long-term career path

If you are confident with customers, serious about performance, and ready to step into a bigger opportunity, we want to talk with you.
