A Residency Program Director is a physician responsible for overseeing the training and education of medical residents within a specific residency program. They ensure the program meets accreditation standards, develop curriculum, supervise residents, and serve as a mentor and leader to both residents and faculty. Program Directors also handle administrative duties, such as scheduling, evaluations, and compliance with regulatory bodies. Their role is crucial in shaping the next generation of medical professionals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a residency program director?

To thrive as a Residency Program Director, you need comprehensive clinical expertise, a strong background in medical education, and often board certification in your specialty, along with experience in academic leadership. Familiarity with accreditation standards (such as ACGME), curriculum development tools, and evaluation systems is typically required.
