ExxonMobil is seeking qualified and innovative individuals to join the Geomodel Technology Development team. The successful candidate will drive the development, testing, implementation, and deployment of next-generation geomodeling technologies, workflows, and digital solutions that enhance reservoir characterization, subsurface uncertainty assessment, and integrated field development planning.
The role requires a strong combination of geoscience expertise, reservoir modeling experience, computational skills, and technology development capabilities. Candidates will work closely with geologists, geophysicists, reservoir engineers, data scientists, software developers, and research teams to advance geomodeling methodologies and deliver scalable business solutions across ExxonMobil’s global Upstream portfolio. The position is located at ExxonMobil Spring campus in Texas.
- Willingness and ability to develop, evaluate, and deploy innovative geomodeling technologies and workflows that improve business decision-making and subsurface reservoir characterization
- Lead the development and implementation of advanced geomodeling methodologies, workflows, and digital solutions for reservoir characterization and field development applications.
- Research, evaluate, and apply emerging technologies including machine learning, artificial intelligence, automation, and uncertainty quantification to subsurface modeling challenges.
- Design, develop, and test new algorithms and workflow enhancements for geocellular model construction, property modeling, and reservoir characterization.
- Collaborate with geoscientists, reservoir engineers, data scientists, and software developers to identify business needs and deliver practical technology solutions.
- Develop tools and workflows to improve model quality, consistency, efficiency, and reproducibility across global assets.
- Conduct benchmarking, validation, and quality assurance of geomodeling technologies and workflows using diverse datasets and reservoir settings.
- Support implementation and adoption of new technologies through training, documentation, user engagement, and technical consultation.
- Integrate seismic, petrophysical, production, and geological data into technology development initiatives.
- Contribute to strategic technology roadmaps for reservoir modeling, uncertainty analysis, and digital subsurface solutions.
- Communicate technical concepts, project progress, results, and recommendations to technical teams, management, and business stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive workflows and improve computational efficiency of geomodeling processes.
- Collaborate with external partners, research organizations, and software vendors when appropriate to advance technology development objectives.
- Master's degree in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Science, Petroleum Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required. A Ph.D. with a specialization in geomodeling techniques, geostatistics, computational geoscience, or related disciplines is strongly preferred.
- Less than 3 years of industry experience in reservoir modeling, geomodeling technology development, quantitative geoscience, or related upstream oil and gas applications.
- Strong understanding of reservoir modeling principles, geological interpretation, and subsurface characterization workflows (e.g., in Petrel).
- Experience developing or applying advanced computational methods in geoscience workflows.
- Strong programming and analytical skills (e.g., Python or similar).
