Department Information
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serves as the primary point of contact and advocate for incoming and recruited at-risk students seeking assistance and guidance from the CARE Services ASCEND Program.
2. Implements recruitment strategies and outreach for admitted or incoming high school students; coordinates with the Offices of Undergraduate Admissions, New Student Programs, Financial
Aid, and Bursar's Office, etc.
3. Develops and implements comprehensive plans for the annual ASCEND bridge week, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and student success metrics.
4. Engages in proactive communication and meetings with students to support academic progress, facilitating connections with relevant support services, within and outside the division.
5. Develops, implements, and assesses intervention strategies aimed at mitigating obstacles to student progression, working closely with colleagues in Enrollment Services, Academic
Advising, and other student success units across the University.
6. Identifies unaddressed student needs and formulates program proposals to address those gaps.
7. Manages the day-to-day operations of the ASCEND Living Learning Community, including coordinating with Housing and Residence Life, Facilities, and the Behavioral Response Team.
8. Selects, trains, supervises and evaluates assigned student staff to assist with ASCEND Program operations.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of student development and frameworks
Ability to recognize and protect confidential information and exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy in handling sensitive information and situations
Ability to work evenings and weekends
Superior ability to effectively engage both campus and community stakeholders
Previous experience with working with minority, low-income populations, potential first-generation students in the college educational setting
Ability to be present on campus during non-business hours depending on the event or emergency
Job Summary
Plans and implements program initiatives for the assigned college, department, and/or unit. Participates in the generation of program resources, communication, design and development of operating goals, objectives, and protocols. Serves as primary point for program implementation and operational matters. Provides technical, professional and programmatic guidance, consultation, and support.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops, plans, and coordinates the implementation and execution of programs, special projects, events, and other initiatives designed to achieve the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the assigned program(s) and/or department(s)
2. Oversees and administers all facets and activities related to day-to-day operations of the assigned program(s) and/or departments
3. Serves as liaison with internal and external clients on all matters relating to program and/or department activities
4. Provides, administers, and/or coordinates the provision of technical guidance, consultation, and related support to clientele within area of program focus
5. Assists with forecast projections and budget for each fiscal year and evaluates progress towards financial goals and may be responsible for the program or department's purchasing card (PCard)
6. Prepares and delivers presentations and collateral for program and/or department and events
7. Coordinates and administers the collection, compilation, and analysis of program activity data, prepares comprehensive program reports and evaluation summaries
8. May coordinate, administer and monitor social media presence and program outreach
9. May supervise and/or lead assigned staff and/or students assistants
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in related field
Required Experience
One (1) year of work experience related to the position

Masters degree in Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, or related field.
Preferred Experience
Experience with planning/coordinating events for students, supervision of student workers, and/or advising students and student groups
A demonstrated passion for and/or experience supporting student success in a diverse and complex environment.
