New York University: NYU - NY: Tandon School of Engineering
The Visualization Imaging and Data Analysis Center (VIDA) at NYU's Tandon School of Engineering is a multidisciplinary research hub focused on developing innovative solutions to complex data challenges. We collaborate with academic, industry, and government partners to advance the state of the art in computer and data science to support data-driven exploration.
VIDA is currently recruiting several research roles, Research Scientists, Research Associates and Research Engineers to join our dynamic team. These positions involve research and development in data science and engineering areas relevant to ongoing projects in the VIDA Center. Our projects span implementation-focused and method-focused directions, as well as multidisciplinary collaborations across domains.
Research Scientists at NYU typically hold PhDs and are involved in the conceptualization, design, and execution of research projects, often with a focus on developing original ideas and publishing research findings.
Research Associates at NYU often work under the guidance of a senior scientist and focus on conducting experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to the overall research goals of a lab. They may also be involved in training students and fellows.
Research Engineers at NYU utilize their engineering expertise to develop and implement solutions for research projects, often working on projects related to data analysis, software development, and experimental design
The ideal candidates will contribute to projects involving:
  • Design and development of novel visualization, AI, data management and data analysis methods
  • Creation of systems for managing, analyzing, and visualizing large datasets

  • Collaboration with domain experts from fields such as urban computing, biomedical research, and beyond.

Beyond VIDA, NYU offers a unique environment for pursuing data science and engineering research, and New York City provides unmatched access to top academic institutions, industry research labs, and startups.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $48,000 ($62,500 for PhD candidates). New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific funding source and the terms.
The position would come with a competitive salary, full benefits, and opportunities for career development, including teaching opportunities if those are desired. Appointment lengths are negotiable.

Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
  • Exceptional candidates with a B.S. degree will also be considered.
  • Strong programming skills and experience with data analysis
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Database systems and big data management
    • Information integration and data engineering.
    • Data visualization and visual analytic
    • Machine learning and artificial intelligence
    • Software development and system design
    • Experience with open-source software development of the research grant contracts when extending an offer.
    • Domain expertise in urban computing, biomedical research, or other applied fields
    • Experience collaborating on multidisciplinary research teams
