Job description

Job Title: Histotechnician Location: Rockville, MD Hours/Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM (some scheduling flexibility) Compensation: $30.00-$40.00/hour Type: 6-Month Contract (High Potential for Extension) Overview A growing biotechnology organization in the Rockville, MD area is seeking a Histotechnician to support an expanding pathology laboratory. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative, close-knit team while working on cutting-edge preclinical and clinical research projects in a fast-paced laboratory environment. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine histology procedures including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, cryosectioning, and staining
  • Process approximately 10-20 tissue samples daily from toxicology studies and research programs
  • Prepare paraffin tissue blocks and section 5-10 blocks daily, with occasional higher-volume periods
  • Perform immunohistochemistry (IHC) using automated staining platforms
  • Conduct microscopic tissue dissection and prepare high-quality slides for pathologist review
  • Handle animal and human tissue specimens while maintaining specimen integrity
  • Follow SOPs and maintain accurate laboratory documentation
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, reagents, and a clean, organized work environment
  • Collaborate closely with the pathology team to support ongoing research studies
Requirements
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology, Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, or a related scientific discipline
  • 2-3 years of Histotechnician experience in biotechnology, CRO, or pathology laboratory environments; hospital pathology laboratory experience will also be considered
  • Hands-on experience with routine histology processing, including tissue embedding, microtomy, sectioning, and staining
  • Experience performing immunohistochemistry (IHC) using automated stainers
  • Experience with cryosectioning human tissue
  • Experience processing animal tissue, necropsy specimens, or human tissue blocks
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately process multiple specimens daily
  • Comfortable handling laboratory chemicals including formalin, xylene, and alcohols
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer
