Job description

Description
Department of Marine Biotechnology, UMBC https://marinebiotechnology.umbc.edu/ is accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellow to conduct research, with the goal of developing technologies to accelerate puberty in commercially important fish. Within the context of a research study currently funded by the USDA and US-Israel BARD, the successful applicant will focus on studying the feasibility of using hormonal treatment, in part via DNA platforms, to accelerate growth and gonadal development in several late maturing fish models. Under the supervision of Drs. Nilli Zmora and Yonathan Zohar, and in collaboration with Dr. Matan Golan (ARO Israel) and Neil Sims (Ocean Era Inc, Kona, HI), the postdoctoral fellow will design and conduct experiments as needed, run the quantitative assays and analyze the data. The data will be disseminated in academic publications, as well as via tech transfer during commercialization of the technology.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Life Sciences. The candidate will demonstrate: evidence of strong research knowledge and skills; motivation and interest in the subject matter, and a familiarity/success with the academic publication environment. The ideal background includes mixed methods research, including: 1) Molecular biology: PCR, qPCR, plasmid preps, 2) Biochemistry: Western blots and Elisa assays, 3) Histology: immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, and 4. Fish handling.
