Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the Chair, Department of Medical Anatomical Sciences, the successful candidate will have specific education and research focus in anatomical sciences, including gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, embryology, histology, and/or cellular biology. The candidate is expected to join a team of researchers in the bone biology field, utilizing transgenic and other pre-clinical animal models, with specific expectation to seek and acquire extramural funding.
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesIndividuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the assigned classification, with or without reasonable accommodation(s), using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Knowledge- Research expertise in the field of translational bone biology, especially relevant to transgenic and other pre-clinical animal models and related strategies. Priority consideration will be given to applicants with a strong publication record as well as record of successful NIH and related funding acquisition.
- Expertise in Human Anatomical Sciences, including gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, embryology, histology, and/or molecular biology.
- Experimental research design and analysis and benchtop laboratory techniques relevant to the field of translational bone biology.
- Experience in human anatomy dissection and lab instruction.
- Ability to communicate effectively to either groups or individually.
- Ability to effectively interact with people of all backgrounds, including students, administration, faculty and staff.
- Ability to handle detail-oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to handle a multitude of responsibilities in the College environment.
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
- PhD degree in anatomical sciences, or equivalent basic medical sciences, from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- 2 years of post-doctoral experience, involving high-quality research and publications.
- Experience in teaching medical anatomical sciences at an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Specific experience in bone-related benchtop research.
- MD, DO, MBBS, DDS, DPT, or other professional clinical degrees.
- At least one year of teaching experience in medical anatomical sciences at professional healthcare programs (MD, DO, MBBS, DDS, DPT, DPM, etc.).
- Independent cadaver dissection and preparation of anatomy instructional material.
- Publication track record in high-impact research journals.
- Track record of successful NIH funding applications is highly preferrable.
- Preference will be given to those individuals interested in including students in active research projects.
- Establish and maintain an active research program through extramural funding sources.
- Mentor undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional students in research projects in the applicant’s area of expertise.
- Participate in teaching anatomical sciences, both didactic and practical, as assigned by the department chair. Initial effort distribution will favor research and scholarly activities, while teaching load is expected to increase gradually as the candidate establishes a stable research program.
- Serve on committees and provide administrative support at the behest of the Dean and request of the Department Chair.
- The faculty member has the right and obligation to participate in scheduled meetings of the General Faculty. Election to the Faculty Senate and election or appointment to committees should be considered a privilege and faculty members are expected to share in these responsibilities.
- Monday-Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM.
- Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Administrative duties are normally performed in a typical office setting. The noise level in this setting is typically low to moderate.
Laboratory duties are routinely performed in a typical laboratory setting. While performing duties in this setting the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold (non-weather), and risk of electric shock.
The employee is regularly exposed to wet humid conditions (non-weather), moving mechanical parts, and high precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat (non-weather), and risk of radiation. The noise level in this setting may be loud due to the noise of ventilation system and hydraulic body hoist.
