Job description

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Research Assistant I to support innovative research initiatives within the Abdominal Imaging Department. The Research Assistant I plays a key role in the technical execution of research projects, particularly those focused on machine learning and artificial intelligence applications for abdominal organ segmentation. The Research Assistant I will collaborate with faculty and research staff to evaluate and implement advanced analytical methods that enhance clinical research outcomes.

Responsibilities Research Experimentation and Clinical Evaluation Conduct research experiments to support ongoing projects involving machine learning and artificial intelligence Identify appropriate clinical cases for evaluation using advanced analytical techniques Assign tumor staging according to recognized guidelines with minimal oversight from faculty and research staff Data Collection and Analysis Gather relevant research data systematically from the hospital information system Record and evaluate data according to established research methodologies Perform literature searches to support research protocols and study development Scientific Writing and Publication Support Assist in preparing research publications including abstracts and manuscripts Support drafting of grant proposals to secure funding for future research Design educational exhibits to communicate research findings effectively Draft preliminary Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions Additional Duties Perform other duties as assigned to support research and departmental initiatives Core Competencies Apply analytical thinking to break down complex problems and make sound decisions Demonstrate innovative thinking by offering new ideas and approaches to research challenges Maintain technical and functional expertise with up-to-date knowledge in the field Deliver service with professionalism, efficiency, and accountability to all stakeholders Promote safe, ethical behavior aligned with institutional policies and standards Communicate proactively and respond to requests in a timely manner Utilize HEAL (Hear, Empathize, Address, Learn) principles for service recovery when needed EDUCATION Required: Bachelor's Degree Basic Science.
