Senior Mechanical Engineer, R&D

Portage, MI

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer on our Research & Development team, you will contribute to the design, development, and verification of orthopedic instrument products while collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

Work Flexibility:
Hybrid: candidates must reside within commuting distance of Portage, MI and be able to work onsite 4 days per week.

What You Will Do

  • Design, develop, and verify mechanical components, assemblies, and subsystems for medical devices.
  • Translate product and user requirements into engineering specifications and detailed mechanical designs.
  • Create prototypes and conduct testing to evaluate product performance, functionality, and design feasibility.
  • Analyze technical data and investigate design challenges to identify and implement engineering solutions.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including design records and technical reports, in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Apply design control, risk management, and quality system requirements throughout the product development process.
  • Partner with Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, and other stakeholders to support project milestones and design reviews.
  • Manage project priorities and engineering deliverables to support program timelines and development objectives.

What You Will Need

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of engineering experience in product development, mechanical design, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating engineering drawings and 3D models using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software; Creo preferred.
  • Experience working in the medical device industry or another regulated industry.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with design controls, risk management, and product development documentation requirements.
  • Experience supporting verification testing and technical analysis activities.
