Job description

POSITION PURPOSE: The purpose of this role is to provide patient centered medical services and education in support of the Planned Parenthood of Michigan (PPMI) mission. Our medical assistants provides quality reproductive and family planning services to patients through clerical, educational, and laboratory duties. This role gathers patient information, identifies concerns, and provides information to other medical professionals in order to provide services and meet patient needs.

SCHEDULE: No weekends! Work Monday through Friday, approximately 37.5 hours per week

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

โ€ขMaintain patient records and enter information into electronic health record (EHR) systems.

โ€ขResponsible for patient education, preparation, support of patient and physician prior to, during and after procedure(s).

โ€ขWill work in EITHER the front or back of office

โ€ขFront of office staff is responsible to greet and check in patients, schedule appointments, refer calls when needed, obtain and verify insurance information, assess patient's eligibility for available financial support programs, collect fees and record transactions, and dispense medication and supplies under the direction of a licensed clinician.

โ€ขBack of office staff perform basic diagnostic testing including finger poke, basic vital signs, urine pregnancy testing, urinalyses, and hemoglobin, rapid HIV test, and blood draws. Prepare lab specimens, obtain patient vital signs including obtaining blood pressure, height, weight, hemoglobin, pulse, LMP, and patient needs assessment. These staff members administer Injections, prepare patients for procedures, and assist the clinician or physician during exams or procedures.

โ€ขBack of office staff also provide basic factual, unbiased, patient education and general information regarding pregnancy management options (including abortions options, risks, and adoption resources), information and risks on Birth Control Methods (BCM), Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), and all other basic health care services within the scope of PPMIโ€™s practice. Screens for possible coercion. Refers to outside resources as needed.
