Job description
Description
The National Partnership for Women & Families is a nonprofit, non-partisan 501(c)3 organization that fights for equality and equity for all women and families to improve their daily lives. We are seeking a Huber Reproductive Health Equity Legal Fellow to provide policy and legal analysis to the Health Justice and Congressional Relations teams. This is a terrific opportunity for a recent law school graduate who wants to work in the movement for health equity and abortion justice.
The National Partnership for Women & Families has been on the forefront in the fight for women's equality for 50 years, from health care and reproductive rights to fair pay and family friendly policies. Although we are not a reproductive justice organization, we are dedicated to the principles of reproductive justice-racial equity and justice, intersectionality, and centering the needs of those systematically oppressed and incorporating them into our daily work. We believe that achieving health equity goes beyond improving access to care. Instead, we advocate for systemic change in accessing quality, equitable, culturally-responsive, and person-centered care. We also believe that our mission includes supporting the next generation of health equity
leadership to strengthen our movement.
Position Summary
National Partnership for Women & Families, with the support of the Huber Foundation, is proud to host a Huber Reproductive Health Equity Legal Fellow. This is a one-year fellowship offering recent law school graduates a professional development opportunity focused on federal reproductive health policy and law. The Fellow will work with the Health Justice and Congressional Relations teams on various issues around advocacy for reproductive health, rights, and justice. Areas of focus will include abortion access and coverage, contraception and other sexual and reproductive health issues, as well as related intersectional issues.
This Fellowship is for one year, beginning in September 2027. The Fellow will learn the state and federal reproductive health policy landscape while also honing skills in administrative advocacy, rapid response to key reproductive rights court decisions, policy analysis and federal policy tracking, tracking relevant cases in the courts, and policy and legal research and writing. Note that the National Partnership is not a litigating organization, and litigation is not a part of this fellowship.
The team's goal is for the Fellow to have a positive growth experience at the National Partnership that will serve as a launchpad into future work.
Primary Responsibilities:
This position reports to the Director of Reproductive Health and Rights. The Fellow will also work with the Sr. Policy Analyst for Reproductive Health and Rights, the Director of Congressional Relations for Reproductive Health and Rights, and others across the Health Justice team and the organization.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Policy research and writing
- Conduct legal and policy analysis and provide strategic input on policies affecting reproductive health, rights, and justice to help develop and inform the National Partnership's Reproductive Health and Rights Program's federal and state policy priorities and the organization's position on judicial cases, decisions, etc.
- Produce written materials for internal and external audiences to communicate analysis such as memoranda, reports, public administrative comments, sign on letters, testimony, fact sheets, blogs, email newsletters and other key policy and advocacy materials for various stakeholders.
- Track federal and state laws and regulations.
Collaboration with coalitions and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with partner organizations and relevant coalitions to contribute to the development of resources and advocacy campaigns, coordinate rapid response on emergent issues, participate in amicus briefs, and other partnered activities.
- Work with the Congressional Relations team in responding to technical assistance requests from policymakers, facilitating ongoing communication among policymakers, and strengthening our reproductive health and rights expertise to better support legislation advancing reproductive health and rights
- Represent the National Partnership in meetings, briefings, conferences, and other public forums.
The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the individual(s) assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, and skills required. Management reserves the right to modify, add, or remove duties and to assign other duties as necessary. In addition, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Qualifications:
- Recent law school graduate - JD required
- Demonstrated commitment to and experience with gender and racial justice issues including in applying intersectional analysis to social justice work
- Knowledge of issues involving reproductive health, rights and justice is strongly preferred.
- Bar admission is not required for this role.
Classification
The National Partnership recognizes a staff bargaining unit, National Partnership United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70, a union for non- profit workers. This position is included in the NP United bargaining unit.
Salary & Benefits
Salary is $72,000. This is a full-time Fellowship position based in our Washington, D.C. office.
The National Partnership maintains a hybrid work environment and the Huber Reproductive Health Equity Legal Fellow will be required to be in the office a minimum of 4 days per month, with additional in-office and in-person days determined by your role and job responsibilities.
The National Partnership provides a generous benefits package that includes generous paid time off including paid federal holidays plus an office closure the last week of December; comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance; 403B and SEP-IRA retirement options; health, transit, parking, and dependent care flexible spending accounts; life insurance and long term disability insurance; paid family and medical leave for eligible employees; and more.

The National Partnership is committed to protecting our employees and our communities from COVID-19. Toward that goal, the National Partnership requires all employees to be fully vaccinated and completely up to date via an FDA authorized and/or approved COVID-19 vaccination. Up to date means a person has received all recommended COVID- 19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when eligible. New employees must be fully vaccinated before their start date, and up-to-date as soon as eligible, unless an exemption due to a medical condition or a sincerely held religious belief or practice is granted.
The National Partnership is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to racial equity and social justice. We make a particular effort to recruit people of color to apply for open positions. People of color, LGBTQ individuals, people with disabilities, and people with other historically underrepresented identities are encouraged to apply. Please see EEO is the Law and Equal Employment Opportunity for more information.
