Job description

2026‑2027 Earth Science Intern – Houston, TX (and other U.S. locations)

Chevron is hiring Earth Science Interns across the U.S. Interns will work in multi‑disciplinary teams that include geologists, geophysicists, engineers, data scientists, and software developers. They will contribute to exploration, development, reservoir characterisation, and well operations projects while gaining guidance from a supervisor and a technical mentor.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with technical assignments in geoscience, geophysics, and petrophysics.
  • Support exploration, development, reservoir characterisation, and well operations.
  • Collaborate with geologists, geophysicists, engineers, data scientists, and software developers on cross‑functional projects.
  • Prepared technical reports and presentations under mentorship.
  • Participate in field and lab visits as required.
Requirements
  • Students currently enrolled in a Master’s or Doctorate Thesis program or with less than 2 years post‑graduate degree experience in geology, geophysics, geological engineering, or related fields.
  • Strong academic performance in core programmes, communication, leadership, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Professional/academic focus in a technical area aligned with Chevron’s business needs.
  • Ability to drive on a routine basis.
  • Demonstrated commitment to The Chevron Way.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with industry workflows for subsurface characterisation.
  • Participation in an energy industry or sponsored university research project.
  • Practical experience with geoscience coding, data science, and/or machine learning.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly pay ranging from $35.20 to $10,200 monthly (adjusted for degree level and academic year).
  • Furnished housing provided.
  • Participation in Employee Savings Investment Plan with immediate vesting of both employee and company contributions.
  • Company match: 4% for a 1% employee contribution; 8% for a 2% employee contribution.
  • Flexible work schedules (5/40, 9/80, or 4/10) as appropriate.
  • Paid holidays according to work schedule.
  • Full year of service credit for each internship completion (must be re‑employed within 365 days).
  • If later converted to a full‑time new graduate position, competitive pay and benefits to eligible employees, including healthcare, time off, retirement plans, and development opportunities.
Relocation and Work Options
  • Relocation may be considered.
  • Coincidentally, Chevron will not sponsor employment visas or consider individuals on time‑limited visa status for this position unless the candidate possesses a Ph.D. or is currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program.
